How Long Does It Take To Heal Broken Metacarpal Bones
Bone is a living growing tissue made mostly of collagen (protein that provides soft framework) & the mineral calcium phosphate that adds strength & hardens the framework. Two types of bone are found in the body; cortical (dense compact outer layer) & trabecular (makes up inner layer, ...Read more
How long does it take to heal and recover completely after the metal plate is removed from 5th metacarpal bone?
What is the recovery time after the metal plate is removed from 5th metcarpal bone? How long does it take to heal completely after the metal plate is removed from 5th metacarpal bone?
Metal/fracture/digit: Usually 6 weeks to 3 months. Best to ask the surgeon who inserted the plate....
How long does it take to heal and recover completely after the metal plate is removed from 5th metacarpal bone? After I recover I want to do is: 1. Karate 2. Knuckle Push Ups 3. Hand Grip Exercises
It varies.: You can start "hand grip exercises" as soon as ordinary activities are comfortable. Ideally these should be part of a general physical therapy recovery program Knuckle push ups and karate can subject your hand to extreme (and, in the case of karate, unpredictable) forces. You must get clearance from your ortho doc or physical therapist before resuming these activitiesSee 1 more doctor answer

How long or how many months does a broken pinky knuckle (5th metacarpal bone) takes to regenerate to its old and original shape?
I would like to ask Dr. Peter Ihle that after metal plate is removed from 5th metacarpal bone, How long do I need to wait before I can start writing?
You can start: Writing as soon as you feel comfortable. After removal of a plate it is really just a matter of wound healing. Outside of that you may have to hold off on moderate heavy activity until the screw holes fill in. About 8 weeks.
Until it heals: The answer is not meant to be funny, but it is true. Typically the bone heals in 4 - 6 weeks, but it also depends on the type of fracture and how stable it is. I would check with your physician before starting any lifting program. Going back too soon can cause the bone to break again.See 1 more doctor answer
I have a "severe bone bruise" of the metacarpals and was placed in a cast they dr said they would call back for follow-up how long will wear this cast?
If the bone: Is not broken, generally the will leave the splint or cast on for 1-2 weeks. If there is a fracture, usually the cast stays on for 4-6 weeks. At your next doctor visit, they will probably take another Xray to make sure there was not a small fracture that didn't show up on the first Xray. Hope this helps!
Hi, I have second metacarpal fracture and this is the 7th weeks but no sign of recovery. X-ray shows bone is not align. Can it heal if bone not?
Without seeing: The xray, I think it best to discuss with orthopedic hand surgeon.
After placing the metal plate on 5th metacarpal bone, How many months will it take to recover Boxer's Fracture (5th metacarpal) completely in order to go for metal plate removal (second surgery).?
6-8 weeks: Most likely it take 6-8 weeks for the bone to heal. They might want to wait for at least three month before to decide to have it removed. Check with the surgeon that put it there. They will let you know what they preferred.
Had boxers fracture in splint for 14 days. Can I take off splint and buddy splint and wrap my metacarpal bones 2-5 in self adherent wrap?
See your doctor: Tell your doctor your situation and then follow his instructios to the letter. Many patients will remove their splint/cast for reasons that don't always make any sense but this can compromise the result of treatment. Not to treat make cost you more to fix latter.See 2 more doctor answers
Hi, I think I may have fractured my 5th metacarpal bone in my hand. Need help! Not sure if it is or not?
Get x ray: Its important you find out since metacarpal bones need to heal correctly. I advise you see your Primary Care Provider or go to an URGENT care clinic for an xray and possible casting/splinting!!
If trauma: If there was an injury to the area, then a plain X-ray would resolve the issue. If no injury then an X-ray can still be of value to exclude other causes such as arthritis. Then you can go from there
I am male and 18 years old, and my bone age is the same (fused metacarpals and phalanges). Can I grow yet? How much? What should I do? Thanks.
No: Probably not if your growth plates are fused. And once you stop, nothing will help you resume growth.
Is it true that if you want to remove the metal plate from your 5th metacarpal bone, you have to wait for at least 6 months since original surgery?
Hands heal more-: -rapidly than other long bones of the body. I usually would wait until imaging shows complete healing. Then when the hardware is removed U have 2 B protected 4 about 3 wks 2 allow the bones 2 remodel so they can accept the stresses. While the hardware is in it stress shields the bone so when the hrdwr is gone it needs time 2 re-align its internal structure 2 B strong again.
If my epiphyseal lines of the metacarpals and phalanges are already closed does the bone plates may other parts of my body will allow for furthergrow?
Yes: The distal femur is usually the last to close at 17 you could be at the end of growth but it certainly can continue for longer esp in a male.
Can I start Karate while the metal plate is placed on my 5th metacarpal bone after complete recovery or Do I need to go for another surgery to remove the metal plate before I start doing Karate?
Review: Review this with your orthopedic doctor. It may or may not be safe to remove your plate. You should be able to do karate with the plate in place. All the best.
