How Long Does It Take To Heal A Tragus Piercing
Even after the tragus piercing is healed I still can't clean it with alcohol. How long do I have to wait?
Alcohol can dry: Out the surrounding skin excessively.Get a more detailed answer ›
Tragus piercing: The tragus is the small cartilage of your outer ear, just in front of the opening of the ear canal. Much like the earlobe, this area is not that sensitive to pain, but it is slightly more sensitive than the ear lobe. The ear canal, on the other hand, is very sensitive to pain. I would caution against piercing this area as it puts the cartilage at risk for infection, called chonditis.
Tragus: The tragus is the small pointed eminence of the external ear in front of the ear canal. Unlike the ear lobe, it has a core of cartilage. I have seen pain ratings (on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is the worst) ranging from 3 to 7. It probably depends greatly on the person and on the method of the professional doing the piercing. I would find someone who had a good experience and use that piercer.
Tragus piercing: It is in your best interest to keep it clean to avoid an infection, especially of the cartilage.
Headaches: Usually a piercing does not cause headaches. They may be related based on "stress" or other factors in your life. If your headaches are not responsive to OTC Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin assuming you are not allergic to these medications you may want to seek a consultation with a neurologist for your headaches.
Antibiotics & check: If the tragus is red, swollen & tender from an infection, I would first start a topical antibiotic ointment to the area like bactroban (mupirocin). I would get this checked out by an ENT doctor who may be interested in prescribing oral antibiotics for this if needed. The most important thing is to see a doctor to start some form of antibiotics if needed. An ENT would be the best choice to treat this.
Score ear piercing: Infection of cyst infected. Best to remove piercing and see your doctor for local and PO antibiotic care.
Many possibilities: There are many causes of infections of the external ear other than piercings; but it can also be caused by a variety of noninfectious systemic or local dermatologic processes. Your doctor should be able to tell you exactly what is causing the problem.
Dial soap is very: Drying. With a new piercing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide may cause the surrounding skin to dry out excessively. New piercings are usually cleaned twice a day. Do not twist jewelry / post. Saturate gauze w saline solution (pinch of sea salt in warm water), place on piercing ; allow it to gently drip into the piercing. Or you can buy pressurized saline solution at a drug store.See 1 more doctor answer
Daith piercing: My limited research on the matter indicates that migraine relief from Daith piercings does not occur universally. There does not appear to very much in the way of formal research either. However, both auricular and scalp acupuncture are safe forms of treatment for migraine and other headache types.See 1 more doctor answer
