Basic option.: If the fracture is together and the pieces are not separated then a long leg knee brace can be used to let the fracture heals over six weeks. With the blood in the knee joint, which is the hematoma, from the broken kneecap, if it is a very swollen it can be drained and that fluid pressure can be reduced. I would also use gentle compression and intermittent ice. Discuss this further with your orthopedic surgeon. ...Read more
