Is it good to get a second opinion on your results of your thyroid biopsy?

Is it good to get a second opinion on your results of your thyroid biopsy?

Always an option: The answer depends on why you want a second opinion. Most centers have more than one pathologist so they typically run tough cases with each other before making the final call. If the result was benign, I typically would not ask for a second opinion but will observe the nodules over time. The only time I would ask for a second opinion is when the result comes back "indeterminate.". ...Read more

Can a thyroid biopsy's produce false results?

Can a thyroid biopsy's produce false results?

Thyroid biopsy: Hard to answer. No test is perfect. With an ultrasound-guided needle bx, the pathologist looks at the sample of cells that he gets. He may not get a good sample. In some kinds of thyroid cancer, it is hard to distinguish normal from abnormal cells. Sometimes decisions need to be made in spite of "test results", i.e. A judgement call. Talk to your endocrinologist. ...Read more

3days ago I had thyroid biopsy. Stil hurts when I swallow, move neck and touch it. Like being poked with a needle. Normal? How long will it last?

A week or more: I presume that this was a needle bioopsy of the thyroid. I should heal in less than a week. Occasionally, a small amount of bleeding occurs where the biopsy needly was inserted. This can prolong the discomfort for an additional week. If the discomfort is decreasing, even if slowly, it's ok. If it is increasing, chek with the doctor who did the biopsy. ...Read more

Lump on thyroid, biopsy said its epidemoid cyst. But no opening to it, its inside on my thyroid. What is its.?

What's the issue?: If someone told you that an epidermoid cyst must have an opening to the outside, that person is sadly mistaken. Epidermoid cysts are well-known to occur in the thyroid. They merely duplicate the normal epidermis of the skin. Http://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Gov/pubmed/17230574 ...Read more
