How Long Does It Take To Get Rid Of Head Lice In A Child
Nix is not...: ...My favorite treatment, as many strains of head lice are now resistant to it. Elimite cream (applied to dry hair & left on overnight under shower cap) works better, although not officially approved for that indication. Malathion (ovide lotion) works fastest, but stinks, and is flammable! kwell shampoo also works fast (repeat in 1 week), but like nix, resistance is common. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Less than a week.: Now many head lice are resistant to our traditional therapies. Cheap method which works is to apply gold listerine to the scalp x 1 hour and cover with shower cap. Just make sure to follow your doctor's directions or the directions on the bottle, and remind your little one to not share caps/hats/bandanas or combs/brushes with other children. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not always easy: Nix cream rinse and kwell shampoo do not work consistently. Elimite cream (left on all night) is reported to be effective but is not officially approved for head lice. Malathion lotion is effective, but stinks and is flammable. Oral Ivermectin works, but requires a doctor's prescription. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Limited benefit: I have had a few moms try vinegar as a frequent hair wash (daily for a week or more) & say that this worked. Apple cider vinegar or its stouter cousin pickling vinegar were effective killing bugs and loosening the egg casings from hair to the point they slid off easily with a nit comb.If this is not effective for you an otc lice product like nix may finish the job. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
