How Long Does It Take Tazorac And Solodyn To Work For Acne
1 to 2 months: Most topical and oral meds for acne take about 1-2 months to be effective. You may start seeing some improvement at 2-4 weeks but may take a while longer to get the maximum effect of the drug. It's also possible to look initially worse for the first 2-4 weeks before you start to see improvement. ...Read more
Acne suggestions for 20 year old male on solodyn (minocycline) and retin a but still getting flare ups after 4 months?
Just got prescribed the acne gel tazorac (tazarotene) have not seen improvement yet how long does it take to start working?
May take 6 weeks: You have to be patient, it may take up to 6 weeks to see results ...Read more
Antiobiotic: Solodyn is the trade name for minocycline, which is an antibiotic medication frequently used to treat acne from the tetracycline class. It is effective in inflammatory acne (red bumps, or bumps that drain pus) and will help decrease the redness and promote healing. It is not as photosensitizing as doxycycline, another commonly used drug. ...Read more
Maybe not: Acne fluctuates. It might look worse at first. It might not. Many people benefit from this type of med. Without getting worse. It tends to be irritating, especially the first 2 weeks. As it makes comedones [plugs in oil glands] come out, it might appear as worse acne, especially as it makes the face red. ...Read more
Does solodyn (minocycline) for acne cause an initial breakout? I keep hearing yes and no. I'd like a right answer
Patient dependent: It depends on the patient. Most likely the initial breakout is from tretinoin (retin-a) or another retinoid product like epiduo or differin (adapalene) that you are using at night. This would be a cream. I would discuss this with your physician who prescribed the medication. ...Read more
I've heard acne comes back worse after discontinuing oral antibiotics -- Is this true? (On second month of Solodyn (minocycline) w/ another month to go). Thanks!
Keep managing it: I'm going to assume that you are also using a topical agent such as benzoyl peroxide or retinoic acid or, if you're intolerant of these, at least a salicylic acid wash. You know never to use an antibiotic as sole therapy. When you go off the systemic antibiotic, it'll be tapered. A topical antibiotic such as clindamycin may be a friend. Or since you're a "she", spironolacton. Options exist. ...Read more
The only...: ...Significant side effect from tazorac, (tazarotene) in my experience, is dryness and irritation. Wait an hour after washing your face, to allow normal skin oils to replenish, before applying it. And apply it at bedtime, so that any irritation will occur while you're asleep. ...Read more

Both are retinoids: Depends on which one is tolerated more or gives better results, usually Tazorac (tazarotene) is more potent, ask your doctor, you may want to try both and decide for yourself, given that you use them right and follow the instructions well, take care ...Read more
I'm taking solodyn (minocycline) for acne, and I'm interested in taking the Hcg drops. Is it safe?
No: I would not recommend taking the solodyn (minocycline) and the HCG drops. If you are considering the use of the HCG drops, I would recommend that you get in to see your physician and make sure you are ready for such a process. You may be at risk, please get in to be seen before starting the HCG. ...Read more
See below: Tazorac (tazarotene) does not treat acne scarring. It is a topical retinoid similar to, but more potent that retin-a. It can help prevent new acne scars by preventing serious breakouts as part of an acne treatment regimen. Some patients (especially those with darker skin tones) can develop dark spots from acne. These are not actually scars and Retin-A can help improve them over the course of many months. ...Read more
I am 20 years old now and I've had acne since I was 12. I've went to many dermatologists for help and all they can give me is tazorac (tazarotene) to help me.
I have very bad acne since the age of 17. Nothing helps me I've tried birthcontrol, acazone, tazorac (tazarotene), spiromolactone & I feel its even worse! Help!?
Details matter: Which birth control? Some birth control makes acne worse, some make it better. How long? Spironolactone dose? Duration? Usually it takes 3 months to appreciate results. Isotretinoin [Accutane] will rescue you if other therapy fails. Usually acne does NOT get worse at first. Typical treatment is 20 weeks. Large studies indicate clearly that it does NOT cause depression and that we waste time lookin ...Read more
No: They won't touch the scars. Many men -- including several noted hollywood "tough guys" -- like the scars for the character they give. Others hate them, or are indifferent, or let their partner decide. You have a choice. Laser therapy and fillers are used by dermatologists with much success. ...Read more
I am taking Solodyn for acne, 115 mg and Junel 1/20 fe. Does this antibiotic effect the effectiveness of my birth control. If so, to what degree?
I have been using Tazorac (tazarotene) gel 0.1% for about 6 mnths for acne. I have some peeling and dryness. Any suggestions for moisturizers/cleanser?
Excessive dryness: Applying an oil free hypoallergenic moisturizer after each cleansing with warm water and a gentle pH balanced cleanser can help prevent excessive dryness when using facial medications. Cetaphil and Ceravue are two examples. ...Read more
If I don't have acne, but want to use a retinoid for anti-aging properties, which do you recommend? (adapalene vs tretinoin vs tazarotene)
I've been on antibiotics/birth control/tazorac for acne for years, but I've been flaring up for the last few months. Is Accutane my only option left?
What helps best for cystic acne? Probiotics or evening primerose? Currently taking Spironolactone, Aczone, & genetic tazorac (tazarotene).
Adjuncts only: Sandy, forgive my frankness. I'm not a dermatologist, but if a retinoid (tazorac), dapsone, and spironolactone have failed, you need to consider isotetinoin therapy despite all the scare stuff you've read on the doctor-bashing websites. Acne is a grave personal and professional liability. You're an adult now, you have job interviews coming up, and it's probably the right choice. ...Read more
What's more effective for cystic acne for 20 year old female. Benzoyl peroxide gel or tazorac (tazarotene) gel?
See below: Retin-a mirco does not treat acne scarring. It can help prevent new acne scars by preventing serious breakout as part of an acne treatment regimen. Some patients (especially those with darker skin tones) can develop dark spots from acne lesions. These are not actually scars and Retin-A can help improve them over the course of many months. ...Read more
