Use with caution: Magnesium salts can bind with levothyroxine( common thyroid medication), if taken simultaneously may reduce absorption of the thyroid medication/ decrease its effect. To reduce this interaction, take thyroid medication at least 4 hours before or after the magnesium citrate dose. Work for what: Magnesium citrate for constipation typically works within 4-6 hours of drinking 8 ounces. If it does not work there be be a bowel obstruction or exceedingly hard stool in the colon that cannot be bypassed easily, for low magnesium levels in the blood stream it may never work because the absorption may be inadequate due to rapid transit through the GI tract. ...Read more

GI bug?: Hi. How long have you been constipated? Have you vomited up anything else? Mg citrate does not not induce vomiting, so I suspect you have a gastroenteritis or could have an obstruction. Please talk with your doc. If vomiting continues, get to the ER! Good luck! ...Read more
