OT: Stiffness, pain and swelling in the hand can be normal in this setting whether or not surgery was performed. Give it at least six weeks for the tissues to regain their tensile and compressive strength and seek the instruction of an occupational therapist. Second opinions are golden.See 2 more doctor answers

Varies: It varies quite a bit. Typically would at best be in the 8-12 week range. Make sure you follow up and follow the instructions of your surgeon, it would seem a little early to be doing things like turning a door knob at this point. Make sure you are being compliant. Your surgeon will be able to tell you more about your specific case.See 1 more doctor answer

Cut through my tendons in my hand. I had surgery, but need one more, physio isn't going to help anymore they said, can I ask to proceed without physio?
Tendon surgery: Is often successful but therapy is equally or more important than surgery as a healing tendon lays down scar and one want the scar to form on the tendon but not to the surrounding tissues making adhesion and stiffness. Additional surgery can be needed for adhesions but it is important to keep passive motion, so often it is best not to abandon therapy, ask your surgeon for more infoSee 1 more doctor answer

Would I be able to move my fingers if a tendon in my wrist was cut? My middle and ring finger have very limited range. Is surgery needed?
Depends: Remember you have multiple tendons attached to your finger (s). So if one tendon is completely severed you will likely loss some motion but unlikely all motion. It's uncommon to severe a finger tendon without an obvious significant trauma, it's more likely that the tendon isn't able to slide appropriately along it's track, like in trigger finger. Seek the help of an orthopedic doctor.
I severed the tendon in my pinky a month ago. I have to have surgery but canr right now of financial situation. But the tip my pointer finger is numb?
Tendon injury: The compartment in your finger are very small. Along the lateral aspects run the nerve bundle that supply sensation to the finger tip. Any injury/irritation to the nerve bundle, swelling can result in the symptoms you are experiencing. The ultimate treatment is surgery to fix the tendon and the nerve if it was damaged along with the tendon.

ER Dr said a tendon was cut from wrist laceration. I can wiggle all fingers but two are numb with limited ability to move. Well I need surgery?
Possibly.: You should see a hand specialist to be fully evaluated. Depending on your movement problems and location of the lacerations they may be able to reattach some of the tendons to improve your movement. The numbness suggests nerve damage from swelling or possible cutting from the same injury, there is unlikely much that can be done about this beyond getting the wound cleaned out and infection free.
