How Long Does It Take For Syphilis To Be Detectable In A Blood Test
Weeks to months: Testing for syphillis relies on both non-specific tests that can be falsley +or - and more specific germ tests as backup. A + or rising level of a screening test is confirmed by a germ test. The most specific test is finding the germ in material from a lesion. Since transmission ~30% per contact with an infected source, a single dose of penicillin is often given as early as exposure is suspected. ...Read more

Yes it can: The TPHA test (Treponema pallidum hemagglutination) is a confirmatory test for syphilis. Usually it is done only after a positive screening test, such as the VDRL, RPR, or an EIA test. If you have had negative results on one of these plus the TPHA, you can be 100% certain you don't have syphilis and probably never did. ...Read more

How soon does syphilis show up in a blood test? There are diff names for certain tests, does it matter what test? Do they detect all in same time frame?
Usually within the first six weeks after a possible exposure. Syphilis is unique in that when one is infected in their mouth, vagina or rectum they may miss the first stage of syphilis because the sore it causes does not hurt.
If one has an unexplained sore in this scenario then testing definitely should happen. But, in general six weeks. ...Read more

I had syphilis in 2014. The RPR was 1:128. Got 3 penicilin shots. My most recent blood test shows RPR 1:4. does that mean I got reinfected?
Probably not: Successful cure is defined by a 3-dilution decline in RPR or VDRL titer. Your decline is 5 diultions, so probably all is well. However, if your titer previously declined to a lower level, i.e. negative or under 1:4 and now has risen to 1:4, reinfection is possible. Best to discuss with the doctor or clinic where you were treated, but most likely no problem. ...Read more

Hi. I had unprotected sex with a guy. I went 30 days after exposure and got a blood test for hiv and syphilis they came back - Should I trust this?
Retest at 3&6 months: For HIV, it can take up to 6 months after exposure to develop the antibodies that are detected by the test. So retesting is recommended usually at 3 and 6 months post-exposure. For syphilis, antibodies can take several weeks to be produced, so again, if you are concerned, another retest in the future may be indicated. Testing for other STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea is recommended also. ...Read more
If I am tested for herpes, and the culture is positive and the blood test is negative. And my STD test is reactive for syphilis what should I believe?
I recently got told I have syphilis from a blood test, from a blood drive at my school. I'm 17 and I'm not able to see a doctor wothout my parents conse?
This is something you should discuss with your parents who should be told this: There are FALSE POSITIVES associated with the routine syphilis tests used on blood!!! Its medically important for the reason for the positive test to be confirmed or "run down" There is absolutely no reason to be ashamed or worried! Take action..... Show this answer to your parents!!
Hope this helps you!

I got a syphilis blood test 3 or 4 wks after sexual activity. Sexual activity was fingering and hand job but he touched me after he touched himself?
Syphilis serology: Do not know how you were tested, but these are usually quite sensitive and negative results usually mean negative results. The scenario you describe is also one which is not likely to be transmitting syphilis, unless of course he had open lesions on his penis which contained living spirochaetes. Suspect you are going to be fine but it never hurts to recheck. Hope this helps. ...Read more
