How Long Does It Take For Skin To Grow Back After A Leg Road Rash
3 weeks: These are essentially partial thickness burns and can be treated with washing with soap and water 2-3 times/day, application of Bacitracin ointment and a dry dressing. These types of injury should be healed in 3 weeks--if they are not, or if they do not seems to be improving normally, you should see a physician to see if there is an additional problem. Depends: The deeper rash will likely fill in with granulation and scar tissue. It will look different from your normal skin and may have areas of numbness. The superficial areas will likely heal with only temporary redness left over, that should return to normal over months or years. Read more

About a month ago I received some road rash on my face and forearm. Once the new pink skin has formed how long shoud I continue to cover it in vaselin?
Probably can stop:
The new skin is kind of like baby skin--it is fragile and will tend to be dry, so I would continue to use vaseline--just enough to keep it moist so it doesn't itch. Do not get it sunburned or suntanned until all the pink is gone-use a sunscreen with spf > 15. It will burn easily and if tanned, may tan permanently.
Good luck! Read more

I have road rash on my left thigh from a bike accident that is 2 weeks old. I've recently developed a red bumps all along my leg. The road rash is red and tender to the touch. Should I be concerned?
Time for an eval: Any time you have an injury that is not getting better as you would expect, or is getting worse with increasing pain or redness, foul discharge, etc. You should see a physician for an evaluation. You don't want a minor and easily treatable infection to turn into something much more serious or potentially life threatening. Go get it looked at to make sure it is nothing serious. Good luck. Can impede healing: Best thing to do after the initial disinfection with soap or alcohol is to apply petroleum ointment (plain vaseline) at least twice daily until the skin has re-epithelized (about 5-7days). Hydrogen peroxide can be harmful to the healing skin, antibiotic ointments increase the risk of allergic contact dermatitis, alcohol can dry out the wound resulting in a scab which can also slow down healing. Road rash on knee is yellow on inside and tender and red around infection? Tetanus shot? Wat should I do?

I had a quater skin infecction with puss and oil that looked like road rash and a week later one formed on my arm, could this be related to hiv?
HIV: This sounds like a case of cellulitis, possibly with staphylococci with recurrence. Whether it has anything whatever to do with HIV would only be significant if you have the disease, and have become profoundly immunosuppressed as a result of long-standing untreated disease. If you are concerned about possible exposure go and get tested. The 4th generation immunoassays are excellent. Read more
I fell this morning, landing directly on my right knee on concrete. Have "road rash", bruising and swelling, as well as a distinct feeling of liquid around the kneecap, which is my main concern. Can flex and walk on it. Safe to treat at home?
Knee injury: The concern here would be a fracture of your patella (knee cap) in view of the type of trauma and the presence of knee swelling. We know that at the very least a contusion of the patella occurred. If pain and swelling are pronounced, get examined and an xray. In the meantime apply cold and elevate your leg. I tripped and fell on the sidewalk on sunday. It looks like road rash on my knee. There's yellow crust, redness, it feels hot and there is a deep pain in the bones. I spray it with bactine 3 times a day. Can there be infection without puss?
Bruising: Bruising heals at a different rate for each person, but on average should disappear after 10 days to two weeks. Keep it covered with a non-stick dressing like telfa, or vaseline gauze. Read more
