How long does it take for scabies to go away after permethrin cream?

How long does it take for scabies to go away after permethrin cream?

Depends: Even if all the scabies mites are killed by the premethrin, itching can persist for several weeks. Persistent itching, especially if there are big bumps, sort of like mosquito bites, can be treated with a topical cortisone (steroid) cream. Usually premethrin is applied twice, about a week between applications. It has to be done right, clothes and bedding washed, contacts treated too. ...Read more

I had the scabies infection an I think there gone but I still have the bumps on my penus an the skin is pealing what should I do and how do I make them go away an I have used permethrin cream an African black soap?

Healing takes time : the itching can continue for weeks after treatment and peeling is normal. Try a calamine lotion and over the counter antihistamines such as Zyrtec or Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for the itching. Also a topical hydrocortisone cream can be helpful for itching. Vaseline can help with peeling. Remember to repeat the treatment in about 2 weeks and treat your family members as well. ...Read more

Unusual choice: Ivermectin stays in your blood for a day. It's an unusual choice of therapy for scabies infestation and is usually reserved for patients who do not have functional immune system. Permethrin alone, applied as directed to the whole body and left on overnight before washing, should do the trick with one initial treatment followed by a second treatment 7 days later if needed. Applied permethrin cream 5% for scabies last night, to every inch of my body. On for 12 hrs. I still woke up with new bites. When will new bites stop?

It can take 3 weeks: Scabies symptoms aren't from "bites", but from the body's allergic reaction to scabies mites and their products (eggs, droppings, etc). Permethrin kills mites immediately, but it takes time for the immune system to clear the dead mites and the junk they left behind. Red bumps and itching can continue up to 3 weeks, and may even get worse for a while. Hang in there, it will clear up with time. ...Read more

How often can I use permethrin? Me and my daughter both have scabies and we used the cream yesterday as directed. My daughter is worse today.

Can happen: To feel worse the next day, as a side effect of using permethrin. Itching might stay for sometime, if live mites are still present, another treatment in 14 days is needed. Im constantly itchy so i know I have scabies, im currently putting on permethrin cream, other than that what can be done to stop the itching?

See a dermatologist: Do you have some other reason to think it is scabies? There are thousands of possible causes for itch. If your itch is not scabies then permethrin will not help, may even irritate skin. Successful treatment requires that you first identify, if possible, the cause. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a sleeping pill which may help itch only by sedation, therefor is not safe if you drive a car. ...Read more

Unlikely: Topical permethrin has a theoretical risk but no definitive studies link it to cancer. The US FDA has determined that it could cause cancer if EATEN, based on what we know about similar chemicals. http://npic.orst.edu/factsheets/PermGen.html#cancer As with all chemicals of unknown cancer potential, limit exposure. ...Read more
