How long does it take for bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) to take down a swollen gland in the neck ?
Lymphadenopathy: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is an antibiotic combination that will treat some infections. The swollen lymph node is the body's reaction to an inflammation which may have been the infection you are treating, but how fast it recedes will have little to do with the treatment. ...Read more

How long does it take for swollen glands in neck to go down after having a cold? What is considered normal?
Depends..: Many infections can linger even after sore throat has resolved. In general most reactive lymph nodes diminish in size after a couple weeks once the agent is gone. Mono, for example can take months....also sometimes lymph nodes get larger but dont go back to the original size. I suggest you see someone if it hasnt gone down 2-3 weeks after improvement in case you need to be examined or tested ...Read more
How long does swollen neck glands to go down caused by a viral infection.I know it can take a while for the glands to settle after viral infection?
I've taken Bactrim for 8 days with no obvious side effects but now I have hives and I've had a swollen lymph node on my left side of my neck and I have been having periodic nerve pain. Please, any suggestions would be great.
Allergic reaction.: An allergic reaction to a drug may take several days to appear. If you are taking no other new meds, then you likely are allergic to Bactrim. Call the prescribing doctor. Take 25-50 mg Benadryl, (diphenhydramine) (after reading label to be sure it is something you can take safely). If you have trouble breathing, swallowing, or chest pain, go to an ER right away. ...Read more
How worried should I be about swollen cervical lymph? Took zpac for sinus, still swollen, on day 4 of bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). Neck itchy 3 weeks prior, related? Ty
Wait and see: Sounds like you recently took a lot of antibiotics. After Azithromycin and bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) you do not need any more. Commonly with a sinus infection, post nasal drip can cause a scratchy throat. Swollen lymph nodes are a nonspecific symptom which can indicate infection, inflammation or malignacy. Your symptoms should improve within 1-2 weeks. If not a return visit to your doctor is indicated. ...Read more

2 month persistent throat pain/swollen tonsils. Doctor is prescribing bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). Already tried caphalexin 5 weeks ago. Help mildly. Thoughts please?
Pharyngitis/tonsilit: This is either not due to bacterial infection or, less likely, you are infected with an organism resistant to these antibiotics. Suspect you might have infectious mononucleosis or a mononucleosis-like syndrome. Best to see an ENT doctor or an infectious diseases expert. Hope this helps. ...Read more

I have swollen glands under chin cos I had a sore throat and now a cold sore. When cold sore will be gone, how long does it take for glands to settle?
A while.: a first time cold sore might take 1-2 weeks to completely resolve and the nodes could stay swollen for a month or more. Subsequent outbreaks usually resolve more quickly. The lymph nodes may never go back to their initial size but should be less than 1 cm in size and not be tender when everything settles down. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
That depends: It is variable depending on what type of infection is causing glands to become swollen. Also depends on which glands or if it is lymph nodes. Sorry - can't provide a good response with limited info avaialble. ...Read more
Likely infectious...: Swollen lymph nodes are typically related to recent or current infection. Can stay swollen for a couple of weeks. If they remain 'squishy and mobile' (meaning you can move them around like a marble under the skin), then they are likely fine. If they get bigger, or feel less well-defined and don't move around, definitely have checked out. Also dpends on what you mean by 'so long'. ...Read more

Regarding my 5yr old with high liver levels, her glands on neck are swollen and so is her the glands on her groin , wcc was 22 but is down back to 11?
Helps a little: I answered your previous question about your daughter. Knowing glands are enlarged helps a little, makes me think more towards an acute infection mononucleosis, but still not enough information about her history and exam to really say much. Is there a reason her doctors aren't saying anything to you about what they think? They are really best situated to give you a full assessment of her condition ...Read more
See below: Most commonly, lymph glands swell in response to infection and inflammation. This is what they should do as they help the body ward off these conditions.
