Clear skin down there before I shaved and the next day I have a couple red bumps. Not sure if I'm having a recurrent herpes outbreak?
Could be...: Because this happened the day after shaving, the most likely diagnosis is razor burn - especially if there are only a few bumps. But if you have a history of herpes, it could be a recurrent outbreak and the timing with the shaving was just a coincidence. Razor burn should not get worse in the next couple of days but a herpes outbreak might. ...Read more
A friends 4 yr old kissed my lips. I do not have a herpes outbreak and have not had an out break in a really long time. Could it have spread?
My first herpes outbreak really burns when I urinate; not from the sores. Urine sample was clear. Is this from herpes & how can I urinate pain free.?
If you are having a genital herpes outbreak, it will just hurt. Urine is an irritant and urine hitting the raw skin will burn. If your urine sample was clear and the pain is on the skin, then it is apparent that the pain is from the herpes.
You could try applying a & d ointment over the sore area so the urine can't get onto the raw skin. Make sure you wash your hands well afterwards. ...Read more
How long should I wait after a herpes outbreak to have sex with my boyfriend? I took 1000mg Valtrex (valacyclovir) twice/day during outbreak and 500mg thereafter.
Misinformed?: If using protection that covers the infected area you don't have to wait. But the more important thing here is that having sores does not in any way correlate to contagiousness. Everything about herpes changed five years ago when we learned that herpes viral shedding is not predictable and has no correlation to outbreaks. You are just as contagious without a sore as you may be with a sore. ...Read more
Will my genital herpes outbreak pass with out antiviral meds? I am experiencing second outbreak in as many years. Did take the meds the first time.
Herpes outbreaks definitely last longer and are more painful if untreated. The sooner the medication is started (i.e. At the onset of a tingling sensation prior to any herpes lesions being present) the shorter the duration of the actual herpetic lesion. Your primary care provider can prescribe a medication you can take when an outbreak occurs, and often time will give many refills since this is a chronic condition.
Take care. ...Read more
Can drinking a lot of water make urine sample clear for uti? Having my primary herpes outbreak & starting to urinate is painful. Is this from herpes?
If your urine is very dilute (watered down), the typical office test with the dipstick may not detect the white blood cells associated with infection. But a culture will still be accurate.
But herpes hurts, so it would not be unusual for urination and wiping to hurt until the sores go away. ...Read more
I'm having genital herpes outbreak, usuallly I take acyclovior. But pharm told me it might affect my ulcer. Any home remedies I can do to dry this up?!
Unlikely: In several studies less than one-half of 1% of people taking an Acyclovir salt developed ulcers and all were over 50 years old. If you already have an ulcer this needs evaluation and treatment, possibly after upper GI endoscopy. See a GI doctor and continue acyclovir. No home remedies work. ...Read more
Had my first genital herpes outbreak recently, cleared up now thanks to medication, but still itchy? Thrush (as I'm prone) or to do with herpes?
Can a genital herpes outbreak take the form of shingles on the cheek? The first outbreak years ago was bc of HSV 1, no test done this time.
Different viruses: The cause of shingles is the varicella-zoster virus. You first get chicken pox, the virus then sets up residence in the nerves in your body and comes out later in life as shingles, generally in a single nerve root distribution. It only involves one side. Genital herpes can occur with hsv 1 or 2, although more commonly type 2. ...Read more
