Varies: The results from an epidural steroid injection can vary tremendously. Some people do well for even a year, while others may get only temporary benefit. How long is it supposed to it take for my chalazion and swelling from cortisone steroid injection?

How long is it supposed to it take for my chalazion and swelling from cortisone steroid injection?

Few weeks: Typically, it takes a few weeks for steroid injections to melt a chalazion away, but that is for small to medium sized chalazia. It typically does not work in one shot for large chalazia. Besides, steroid injections do not always work anyway, but it should at least shrink it. Other options are surgery or even just leaving it alone. If you leave it alone, it will go away over few months on its own. ...Read more

For how long does it usually take for an epidural steroid injection to alleviate a herniated disk to take effect?

For how long does it usually take for an epidural steroid injection to alleviate a herniated disk to take effect?

Tricky: An epidural steroid injection may provide immediate relief just after the procedure if a numbing medication is mixed with the steroid; this will wear off in 3-4 hours typically. The steroid takes 2-4 days to kick in, but some people don't notice it for over a week. You may get partial relief or it may be excellent, but come right back and another epidural may be needed. ...Read more

I had a steroid injection for cts ten days back, but any strain hurts my wrist. How long should I expect recovery of cts procedure to take?

Less than 10 days: The local injection for cts is far from a sure thing. It should have worked by now if it was going to work. Remember, symptoms of carpal tunnel are electric shock , numbness or a pins and needles sensation. Wrist pain alone may be due to other causes. ...Read more

Help! How effective is cervical facet nerve burning when steroid injection relief only lasts 2 days? I want something long term, w/no more meds!!

Very successful: Radio frequency ablation is the process that heat the nerve to prevent it from relaying a pain message to the brain. Generally, benefits last up,to a year. BUT you must be certain that the treated nerve is the pain source, or the treatment will fail. Often, there is more than 1 cause for your pain. ...Read more

How long does a caudal epidural steroid injection provide pain relief for compressed disks?

How long does a caudal epidural steroid injection provide pain relief for compressed disks?

Great Question: Unfortunately, there is no good literature to give exact amount of time that a patient might expect to receive relief from any type of epidual steroid injection. Caudals are usually done for spinal stenosis or complex fused spines fo relief of pressure on nerve structures. No two spines are alike. They are like snow flakes and fingerprints and so different are patient responses. ...Read more

Had an esi lumbar steroid injection...Over a week later and still getting severe nights sweats...Is this common, how long will it last?

Had an esi lumbar steroid injection...Over a week later and still getting severe nights sweats...Is this common, how long will it last?

Yes: Unfortunately this is a known side effect. Hopefully it will pass in a few weeks at the most. Once the steroid is out of your body it will be gone. If you need a repeat injection ask your doctor to switch the steroid, sometimes this helps or consider non-steroidal injections, although this may give you less relief and will need repeat injections. ...Read more
