I have a small supply of humira (adalimumab) which is slightly out of date. I don't have a good means of obtaining more right now. Would it be harmful to use it?

Avoid expired meds: Expiry date means that these drugs are tested for that much time and was considered to hold the same efficacy as the tablets on the first day of manufacturing.

So expired medicines means there is no guarantees of any sort. So they are better to be avoided.. ...Read more

Taking Humira (adalimumab) (40) for SA and getting good results but pain returns 6-7 days before next shot. Any suggestions? +I'm on pain meds but really want off.

Mgt: This sometimes can occur prior to the dose, but I would recommend treating the pain with a heating pad and pain medication. Shortening the interval may increase the adverse reactions. Other possible changes to your regimen can include lowering the dose but giving the medication on a shorter interval. It is important to be tested for TB while taking the medication. ...Read more

Is there a waiting period between changing from enbrel (etanercept) to humira? If so, how long? Then how long before humira begins to work?

One week: I would start Humira one week after your last Enbrel (etanercept) injection. There is no hard and fast rule. I have seen Humira work as quickly as within two weeks and as long as three months. These medications should be given for at least three months before switching. Good luck. ...Read more

How long do I need to be off humira (adalimumab) both before and after a shingles vaccination?

Unknown: I don't believe there is any concrete answer to this question, yet. It is not recommended to be used together.
Humira has a half-life of up to 20 days. Meaning after getting a dose, there is still half of it in your system after 20 days. Probably 2-3 months before the vaccine would be ok and retart after 4 weeks would be reasonable.
Check with your docs... ...Read more

Is humira safe for me to go on? I am worried about getting infections and maybe cancer. And about the long term side effects?

Do you NEED it?: All decisions to take medication, even an aspirin, weigh risks and benefits. Apart from hormone replacements and nutritional supplements, the only medicines that do not have significant side effects are the placebo treatments of charlatans. Adalimumab has enabled people crippled by arthritis, psoriasis, colitis and so forth to live normal lives. Infections recognized early can be managed. ...Read more

Humira losing its effectiveness with RA. Unable to tolerate MTX or Plaquenil. Any Rheumotologists think Remicade (infliximab) would be a good option?

Can't hurt to try: I'm a family doctor, not a rheumatologist, but I do have RA patients who are on Remicaid who are responding very well with it. I don't know what that's worth to you, but I thought I would share. I think it's being used a lot more and does have FDA indication for RA. ...Read more

STELERA/HUMIRA/METHT: Well if you have no improvement with Humira (adalimumab) and methtrexate, than there is no harm in trying stelera. Discuss with your doctor that it is not working, so what is the harm in trying if stelera will work for you
otherwise you can get a second opinion from another dermatologist. ...Read more

I have chrons and take humira among many other meds. Since starting I am no longer anemic, however I am vitamin d deficient. Have taken one 3 month 50k ibu course but my levels are now lower. Looking for other opinions.?

Increase your dose: It is safe to take rather high doses of d3 as long as you get your level checked periodically to be sure you are not getting toxic. I frequently have pts on 10 k units daily or 50k weekly and then retest in a month. Take with food to increase absorption. D3 is generally better than d2 -longer half life. People with primary hyperparathyroidism, tb, sarcoid and lymphoma should not take vitamin d. ...Read more
