How Long Does Fluid In Ear Last
Dr. Said I have fluid behind ear without infection. How long can this last and at what point should I return to Dr if not better? One week long so far
Middle ear fluid: Greetings. Middle ear fluid causes hearing loss, ear pressure and pain at times and possibly even dizziness. Not sure if your doctor recommended treatment but beginning an OTC nasal spray like Nasacort (triamcinolone) every night might help resolve the effusion. We as ENT doctors recommend considering further treatment after a total of 3 months have passed without the fluid clearing. ...Read more

Firs time ever I had severe ears pain when plane landed ystrdy. I was bit congested - (comon cold) now ears are blocked. Why and how long can it last?
Probably congestion: This is a common problem when flying in combination with a upper respiratory infection, viral or bacterial. You can take medication similar to Afrin for no more than two days if the pain is acute. That will dry up your nares as well as allow your ears to drain. Follow up with your primary doctor if symptoms persist more than 1 week. ...Read more

Depends what it is..: An "ear cold" does not have a strict medical definition and I would suspect could represent one of 2 things. One is a true bacterial infection of the middle ear (otitis media) which often can require antibiotics to clear up. Another would be eustachian tube dysfunction in which a cold or allergies can block the drainage tube of the ear and this can last until the cold resolves or longer 1-2 weeks. ...Read more
Depends: There are a few cells that do not regenerate, brain cells and hearing cells. Dependong on the repetative nature of the gun shots and loud noises, you hope the hearing comes back in 2-3 days. If the loss persists, you need to get an evaluation by ent. Always wear protective hearing aides/ear protection when shooting a gun or performing activites with loud noises (leaf blowing, weed whacking, etc). ...Read more
Depends what else is: Also happening regarding your allergies status. Any histamines work fairly quickly within 15 to 20 minutes. However if you also have itching in your eyelids, nose, throat, those will respond probably quicker then fluid draining from the ears. Also nasal decongestants can sometimes help clear fluid by decompressing the eustachian tube. Your doctor knows best. So, you should probably call her or him. ...Read more

Is it possible for ears to stop producing wax; and if so why does it happen and is it harmful in the long run? 29yrs old, started within last 2 months
Forget about it: Don't worry about your ears and wax. Leave them alone and as long as they don't bother you, you are fine. Wax protects the ear canal skin and if your ear canal skin is happy then you have nothing to concern yourself with. Problems occur when people try to clean their ear canals and that causes a huge amount of problems including itching, infection and wax obstruction. ...Read more

How long does it take to get rid of fluid in the ear which came about from a bad cold earlier in the year and how do I get rid of the fluid?
How long should it take for fluid to get out ear? I'm waiting for infection meds to work and feel horrible can't hear for 5 days now everything hurts
Ask your doctor: Whether you should have responded by now. If you really have external otitis/"water on ear", then you would be applying the medicine to the outside. If there is too much swelling the medicine might not be getting down into the canal and a wick may be needed. If internal otitis media/"fluid in ear", 2-3 days max. If your whole ear is swollen, you may need a different medicine. ...Read more
Depends: Most ear infections can be caused by viruses but if your child has high fever and ear pain then bacteria can play a role. Varies alot: The symptoms that made you suspect an ear infection in the first place should clear up. Usually this means pain goes away. This usually happens within a couple of days. Then you should get your hearing back. This can take a little longer as it takes more time for the fluid from the infection to get cleared up and hearing to return to normal. Sometimes takes up to 8 weeks to get rid of fluid. ...Read more

Depends: The answer depends on the severity of the infection and the bacteria or virus causing it. If truly with an accompanying inner ear issue, an antihistamine or decongestant medication, even one such as "antivert" (meclizine) may help with symptoms of dizziness, etc. And once treated with antibx if needed and meds as above, you should get better in a few days.
