How Long Does Fever Associated With Fifth Disease Last
A viral illness caused by parvovirus, also known as Erthema Infectiosum. It starts with a "slapped cheek" rash on cheeks and a flat red spotted rash, mostly on the arms and upper legs. Once the rash appears, you are no longer contagious. It can be harmful to an unborn baby, if mom has never had it. Adults can get joint swelling and pain. You only get it ...Read more
Self limiting: Fifth disease should go away in less than one week.
I think my 9-month-old has fifth disease. Rash and fever lasted only one day. Should I take her to the doctor if no symptoms are present?
What's Ur gut tell U: There are a variety of rash producing viruses that have little importance to the real scheme of things & most can be managed at home. If the kid is playful for most of his/her day, feeding & wetting diapers as usual, I see little need for an office visit. I truly believe mom's are pre-wired with a sense of their own child's needs & can tell if they need to come in. Do what you're comfortable with.
My 4 year old granddaughter is recovering from "fifth" disease. The rash and low grade fever have been gone for a few days. Strep throat was ruled out by 2 different doctors. Both say it's "fifth disease" however, she seems to be pale. She is eating, p
Fifths: Fifths disease is a common, relatively harmless viral infection - most often seen in kids and characterized by red cheeks followed by a lacy rash on the arms, legs and body. Some people will also have fever for a day or two. It typically resolves on its own without treatment. The only time we really worry about this virus is if it infects someone who is pregnant or someone with a chronic blood disease such as sickle cell anemia, thalessemia, or spherocytosis. The virus can stop the bone marrow from producing red blood cells for a short period of time. This does not usually affect a healthy person, but can affect someone who's red blood cells are not normal in the first place. I attached a website with more information about fifths disease. If she has a chronic blood disease, if her paleness continues, or if she is acting sick at all, give her doctor a call. Good luck!
My 7 yr old son has fifth disease, is it safe for him to get a flu shot while he has this? Or should I wait until he is better
Avoid shot for now: I think it would be safe to let the infection run its course, since the body is busy using its immune system to make antibodies to protect you from another similar exposure. If give it at least a week after being sick to try to give a vaccine
Timing: The rash of fifths disease lasts for a couple weeks on the face, and can last for 1-6 weeks on the trunk.
Ten days`: Fifth's disease is a viral illness and can trigger a cough as any viral illness can. Usually the cough is one of the last symptoms to go away and can last for tendays or even longer. The key is that by ten days the cough is clearly getting better. If not then it would be worth seeing your physician.
Weeks: Although it sometimes fades earlier, I have seen this rash last several weeks. It can often flare after a bath & is sometimes reported as itchy.
Fades quickly: This rash can actually never appear or do so briefly & fade. It usually lasts a day and begins to fade the next day as the body rash starts to appear.
Child has fifths disease. After rash on cheeks, went away and rash on lower body. Suddenly onset of fever. Something different or normal?
Normal: The fever, while usually with the rash in Fifth's disease, can occur at any point in the illness. SO your child's development of the fever now is certainly within the normal course of the illness. Have them stay away from pregnant people if at all possible until completely back to normal health.
My 2 yo son was diag. W/ fifths disease. The fever is over, but now he screams and says it hurts when we try to bathe him. Does the rash hurt?
Should cold symptoms still be present in fifths disease if the rash has already been around for a couple weeks? 7yr old (runny/stuffy nose, no fever)
Not that long: Although the rash from 5th Disease can last for weeks, the upper respiratory symptoms usually improve after 7 - 10 days. When cold like symptoms develop long after the rash has erupted, other causes should be considered.
As a child I had a mild case of whooping cough despite being vaccinated, Scarlet fever, impetigo, fifths disease. I rarely get sick now and haven't been on antibiotics for years. Did I have an immune problem as a child? Or can this be normal?
My daughter has fifths disease. The symptoms started withrash on cheeks. Two days later, she got fever/runny nose/rash on arms/legs. She has had fever for 5 days. Normal?
