My fiance had a cold that was going around that landed him home sick for 4 days. Now he has chest congestion and a cough for the last 2 weeks. Help?
Seems...: It seems that after the initial cold symptoms he never fully recovered from that. The fact that symptoms are worse and lasted for so long makes us think he could be having a bacterial infection of some sort, could be sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia. The only way to definitely tell is to have him see his doctor for exam, diagnosis and possible antibiotic treatment. ...Read more

Red flags: return of fever, marked lethargy or unusual irritability, audible wheezing or marked difficulty breathing. ...Read more
I have been prescribed Z-Pac by Health Tap on Monday and today is my last day and I still have chest congestion and head congestion.
Reconsider dx.: The question is what may be causing your chest congestion. If it is from a cold, Zpak or any other abx would not have made any difference. If you do have sinusitis, you may require a different abx. If these symptoms have been present for months, you may well have an allergic condition with nasal and chest involvement. We need more details. ...Read more

I have terrible chest congestion with a itchy cough in my lungs. I am on a z-pac. How long does it usually take to clear up?
Doctor can re-check: After starting antibiotics, things should be better each day after the first 2 days. Otherwise, the doctor can re-check to see if a different antibiotic or a longer course of antibiotics is needed. Sometimes asthma meds such as inhalers and anti-inflammatories like singulair (montelukast) or Prednisone are also needed. If doing well, a mild residual cough can be around for a couple of weeks, improving daily. ...Read more
