Ppi's safe in short: Recent studies are showing some concerns about long term ppi use. They tend to inhibit calcium and magnesium absorption. They may increase risk of certain GI tract infections and some studies are worrisome for cardiac risks. Current recommendation is not to stay on them for over a yr.
