Depends.............: What is "better"for you is which medication works! i agree that there are many choices out there and only by "trial and error"will you experience what works best to control your symptoms. Diphenhydramine can cause drowsiness and has to be taken every 6-8 hours. Cetirizine can also cause drowsiness and is best taken in the evening. Possible: You don't need runny nose for diagnosing Allergic Rhinitis, esp if you have swollen nasal turbinates ancnad congestion which is the main criterion for its diagnosis. Let your doctor see u in follow up after using meds as prescribed. ...Read more

Rhinitis: Runny nose, sneezing/congestion are the cardinal symptoms of rhinitis, whether allergic or non-allergic. Swollen turbinates and clear fluid in ear (middle ears), are rather signs of inflamed nasal passages affecting middle ears drainage, yes you can have them without the classic symptoms in acute conditions, if long standing, better see an ENT for evaluation, good luck ...Read more
