Tendon (Definition)

Tendons are made up of collagen and are the functional tissue that interfaces between muscles and bone. Muscles generate force that is transmitted through its tendon that inserts on a specific bone that is moved in the plane of the connecting joint made ...Read more

How long do general knee sprains take to heal? I was told that the nothing isn't torn, it's only stretched . It could be my ACL or my patellar tendon

Usually 6 weeks: Ligament injury is graded by the amount of stretch or tearing and the resulting instability. Treatment varies based on injury from minimal to pt with poss brace to surgery.

What are the symptoms for a torn patella tendon?

What are the symptoms for a torn patella tendon?

Usually dramatic: This is typically a painful, traumatic and debilitating injury. Initial symptoms would be pain in the front of the knee, diffuse swelling around the knee, and difficulty straightening the knee without assistance. Often the leg feels powerless and as if you are dragging it, because the powerful quad muscle in your thigh is no longer connected to the lower leg (tibia). Seek medical attention.

What are the main symptoms of a torn patella tendon?

What are the main symptoms of a torn patella tendon?

Can't extend knee: If your patella tendon is completely torn, you can't actively straighten out your knee. Because your patella tendon connects your thigh muscle and patella to your shin bone (tibia). If its partially torn you have weakness with knee extension, difficulty with stair climbing and anterior knee pain.

Which is more serious injury: a torn patella tendon or a torn acl?

Which is more serious injury: a torn patella tendon or a torn acl?

Both.: They are both serious injuries. A torn patellar tendon results in a knee that doesnt function. An ACL tear results in an unstable knee, that can give out on you. The patellar tendon always requires surgical repair. The ACL usually requires surgical repair.

How long to recover from a severed patella tendon?

3 months: Assuming that it has been repaired with surgery, you are looking at 3+ months of protected knee motion to allow for the repair to heal.

What should I do to rehab my torn patella tendon?

What should I do to rehab my torn patella tendon?

Was it repaired?: If you already have had it surgically repaired, then you have been assigned an orthopedist, whose advice, obviously you should follow. If it was not a full tear, and was not treated surgically, and it is a guessing game as to how much you can do with it. Rehab, per se, won't help your chances of further tear. It is inherent to the injury itself and your own situation, your ultimate success.

I have patella tendonitis have been told it could take up to a year to come right as 14yr injury is this true have exercises to stregnthen tendon.

I have patella tendonitis have been told it could take up to a year to come right as 14yr injury is this true have exercises to stregnthen tendon.

Probably: The age of the injury, and your age means there's been a long time to build up scar tissue. Which you are now going to try to remodel with exercises and good care. Look at it this way...It's only taking 7% as much time to fix the injury as it did to get to where you are now! be patient and persistent with your exercise and working with your practitioners.

Does a patella strap help heal patella tendonitis by not moving tendon as much or should I only wear during exercise?

Does a patella strap help heal patella tendonitis by not moving tendon as much or should I only wear during exercise?

Patellar strap: The strap aids patellar alignment, helping the kneecap to move smoothly and reduce tendon strain. It reduces symptoms during exercise but does not promote healing so is not necessary to wear if not exercising.

Had fluid drained 7 weeks after patella femoral replacement now my patella has extreme pain when I lift my knee in a bent position. Is my tendon torn?

Had fluid drained 7 weeks after patella femoral replacement now my patella has extreme pain when I lift my knee in a bent position. Is my tendon torn?

Lifting Ur knee-: -while bent does no use your quads & therefore does not test the quad tendon or the patellar. Inability 2 straighten your knee at all would mean a deficiency. Just initiating knee extension you can easily feel the patellar tendon. Same with the quad tendon. Don't do more than your surgeon allows, but just the initiation of ext should be okay.

How long are you on crutches for after ACL revision surgery using a patella tendon graft? And what is rehab like after revision surgery?

See below: Although it varies, most patients progress to weight bearing as tolerated in a brace over an approximate 2 week period and rehab with the goal of returning to full activity over approximately 12 weeks. Each case is different, I would discuss your specific case with your surgeon.

I tore my ACL (complete tear, patella tendon), MCL (minor tear, bioscrews and stitches), and meniscus (had to trim 1/3). How long before I can run?

I tore my ACL (complete tear, patella tendon), MCL (minor tear, bioscrews and stitches), and meniscus (had to trim 1/3). How long before I can run?

Varies: It varies somewhat based upon surgical preference, you certainly would want to clear it with your surgeon. all that being said, 12 weeks would be a general time frame in which one could often return to light jogging with those injuries/surgery.

I had ACL reconstruction both knees- 2005 Left and 2009 right. Both are torn again 100%. Doctor suggests new surgeries by taking tendons from patella.

ACL tears: Its unfortunate that both are once again torn. You need the ACL for joint stability otherwise you will have to wear a knee stabilizer. I think repeat surgery is a reasonable option. You will have to be extremely careful once this is done.

Whats a high grade partial tear of patella tendon?

Whats a high grade partial tear of patella tendon?

Be seen: The patellar tendon connects the knee cap to the tibia. Without your patella tendon, you can not straighten your knee and it would be difficult to walk. A partial tear means it is not completely torn, but a high grade means it is pretty close to a complete tear. It is probably going to need to be fixed or you may have a poor outcome. Thank you.

Pain on base of patella (not the tendon). What can cause this?

Tendonitis usually: The attachment of the tendons or ligaments to bone can get inflamed - insertional tendonitis, assuming no fractures on xrays. Usually this results from somewhat tight quadriceps (thigh muscles), and a course of stretching with antiinflammatories helps. If this is not an isolated site of the inflammation, with other places in the body inflamed as well, a rheumatological workup would be in order.
