How Long Does A Person With Stage 4 Melanoma Have To Live
How long does this person have with stage 4 metastatic melanoma w/ several mets in small bowel and brain? Treatments?
Depends: Traditionally, this would be associated with a short survival. But over the last 3 years, a number of new chemotherapy drugs are available which may significantly extend the quality and duration of patients with metastatic melanoma. Ask your doctor if your melanoma is "BRAF mutant". If so, you are a candidate for a class of drugs. But don't delay, brain mets can be dangerous if not treated. ...Read more

Several weeks: At times melanoma has been known to go into spontaneous remission. However the chemotherapeutic agents attempted to be used for control have not been too effective. Recently drugs like the antiCTLA's (anti cytotoxic lymphocyte antigen) and the PD-1's have produced a rapid regression in metastasis that have lasted long periods of time. Newer tyrosine kinase inhibitors are adding to the results ...Read more
Metastasis: Stage IV (4) melanoma is the highest stage that a melanoma can reach. It is diagnosed by finding distant spread or metastasis to other parts of the body. Stage is different from clark's levels and breslow levels, although these can impact lower stages. (ajcc cancer staging manual, 7th ed., 2010). ...Read more
Approx 15% live 5 yr:
Stage iv: the 5-year survival rate is about 15% to 20%. The 10-year survival is about 10% to 15%, according to cancer.Org.
So about 1 out of 5 or 6 chance of living five years.
Some new drugs are coming out for melanoma, and there can be spontaneous remissions. But distant spread of melanoma is a tough one.
Good luck. ...Read more
I'm 41 y/o F, stage 4 met Melanoma. On Zelboraf & Mekinist. ESR of 85 & C-Reactive Protein 10. Can meds cause this??
Unrelated: ESR and C-reactive protein are laboratory values that are usually not very helpful in following patients with metastatic melanoma. Generally, scans such as CT or MRI are more helpful. Some patients do have an elevation in a laboratory value called LDH which can be helpful to follow. ...Read more
New mole show up one year ago, doesn't fit ABCDE and derm said it is fine. Cant shake the thought that it may not be. Scared stage 4 melanoma, crazy?
Probably OK: You have done the right thing by having a dermatologist check out your mole. Fortunately he/she thinks it is normal. Melanoma is uncommon at any age but especially so at your age. If you cannot shake this feeling, then a second opinion with another dermatologist would be in order. ...Read more
Are the survival rates with stage 4 metastatic melanoma with mets to the brain, liver and skin really poor?
If I have stage 4 melanoma, does that increase my chances of getting breast cancer or another form of cancer?
Not all that signifi: It does not increase the risk. So I would ask you not to worry any more than you already are if you have stage 4 melanoma. I hope you are not confusing it with level-4 melanoma which means non- metastatic melanoma (curable) as opposed to metastatic melanoma (stage-4) which is less commonly curable. ...Read more

It depends: The long term effects of having melanoma depend on how deep the cancer is at diagnosis and whether it has spread beyond the skin. For very thin (in situ) lesions, there is very little impact after the lesion is treated. On the other end of the spectrum, thicker melanomas that my have spread can be fatal. If you have been diagnosed with melanoma, discuss your prognosis with your dermatologist. ...Read more
Approximately how long does it take for a melanoma to go deeper than. 50 mm into the skin. I know there are many variables. I just ask for approximati?
Highly variable: There are aggressive fast-spreading cancers and there are slow-spreading cancers. An aggressive fast-spreading melanoma can metastasize even before it's visible on the skin. Some superficial slow-spreading melanomas may spread wide but not deep and may not invade the bloodstream for many months. The problem is there's no predicting how a melanoma is going to behave so early detection is key. ...Read more
Depends on Stage: Survival from melanoma (or really any cancer) depends on the stage of the cancer, which in the case of melanoma is derived from the initial tumor thickness, whether there is ulceration, the extent of lymph node involvement (if any) and whether e melanoma has spread to distant, internal, organs. ...Read more
Dépends on therapy: Depending on the depth of the melanoma, surgical therapy may involve just removal of the tumor and closure of the wound with skin flaps or grafts. If the tumor is deeper, lymph node removal may be indicated. If the tumor is present in lymph nodes, adjuvant chemo after surgery may be recommended. As you may imagine, the more treatment, the longer the recovery. ...Read more
If someone had an untreated melanoma, how long would it likely take before it starts to spread to other parts of the body?
Variable, unpredicta: Melanoma can be unpredictable and is quite variable in its behavior. I have been using cbd to heal a stage 1 melanoma located on my shoulder. It has completely removed the growth I have. Have you seen this before. I have read about many cases similar to mine. Dr says it is no longer there.?
Comments: I do not believe we should look at the time for melanoma to go to brain, as the first sign in the body might be a brain hemorrhage secondary to presence in brain. More typically, brain metastasis is late, over months to even a year or two. This nasty disease however, is in the main, poorly predictable. ...Read more
