Asthma? Bronchitis?: That's too long for a cough or for repeated antibiotic treatment. Your influenza may have triggered an underlying problem. It's time for additional exams and tests to check out things like asthma and other causes of chronic cough. See your doctor, and don't accept yet another antibiotic prescription without further evaluation. If you're a smoker, do your best to stop. ...Read more

Is cough or flu at 11 weeks exposure a sign of hiv? Has neg RNA at 28 days and neg duo at 9.5 weeks. Waiting for 12 weeks for last test. Still waiting

Easy does it: During the several weeks between exposure and a pcr test for HIV being certain to turn positive, you're probably going to catch a mild viral illness. Acute HIV may be a mild or severe viral illness but is more like infectious mono than a cough. I see that you have been a safe player and that's good. Hoping (and betting) you're fine. ...Read more

Hello.: Hello. Don't know how old you are or if you have asthma. I can't diagnose your condition. It sounds like you may have had a viral infection which may have developed into bronchitis. What is of significant concern is that you are wheezing every time you breath and your inhaler is not helping. Regardless of the cause, your airways are overly reactive. If you are having trouble breathing, you need to go to the emergency room right now. If your breathing is not labored with just a little wheeze, than recommend you call your doctor in the morning. Since you are not responding to the medication that you have, your doctor may need to prescribe additional medication, at least temporarily to reduce spasm in your airways. Take care. ...Read more

Cough possibility...: The flu is caused by a virus and will complete its course. However, the cough may be related to bronchospasm which should respond to the ventolin inhaler but you may need a steroid inhaler as well to fully treat the bronchospasm. I have persistent itchy cough for a week now. I don't smoke and I just had a flu last week. I think its due to allergy, but how do I get rid of it?

Not uncommon: It is not uncommon to have a dry cough for several weeks after contracting flu. However this also raises the red flag that you may have a mild case of asthma which needs to be ruled out if the cough lasts > a month. Try honey in tea first but a cough suppressant may be considered if it is keeping you awake. If fever >102 or discolored sputum develops, need to rule out pneumonia. ...Read more
