Dr says my tooth ligaments are inflamed after implant on #9. How long can I expect ligaments to be inflamed? What can I take since allergic to ibuprofn

Uncertain cause: Alleve would be the best thing to take for inflammation since ibuprofen is out. Not sure what ligaments you are referring to. There are none associated with an implant, and any where tooth was extracted should have been removed during the preparation phase for the implant. Gum tissue soreness is normal and may last 7-10 days depending on the incision/sutures. Good Luck. ...Read more

A cavity is the erosion of a part of a tooth, that has no blood supply or the tooth cells to grow new parts of the tooth. So once a cavity has reach a certain size it can not be reversed, it must be removed. Then a filling can replace the destroyed parts. ...Read more

Can a slightly loose tooth heal on its own? Hi, I recently had a collision with a teammate playing football and was hit in the mouth. After that I noticed that my 2nd left bottom incisor felt tender and somewhat loose when I touched it. It has been 5 days

It: It very likely will firm up on its own, but it will take time. For a very short time, splinting the tooth to adjacent teeth is a good idea, but only for short time. If splinted for too long, the tooth can fuse to the bone (ankylose) which could lead to future problems.

Also, the nerve of the tooth can die from trauma. It can take years to manifest itself, so you should always ask for updates on every recare (cleaning) visit. In very rare cases, trauma can lead to internal resorption, where the nerve resorbs the tooth from the inside out. This is not common but can occur. ...Read more
