2-3 weeks and 3 mos.: There are many possible sexually transmitted infections, including syphilis, hiv, hepatitis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, trichomonas, and human papilloma virus (hpv). Some of these have helpful tests to check for them, others do not. How long these tests take to turn positive varies, with some taking as long as 3 months. It is ok to check after 2-3 weeks, but I would check again after 3 months.

I had unprotected sex a couple days ago. When will STDs show up on my test? Should I wait to get it done?

Each STD different: Testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia (vaginal swab or urine) is reliable any time after 4-5 days. Syphilis 6 weeks. HIV 4-12 weeks, depending on the exact test (s) done. HSV (for genital herpes) up to 16 weeks, but HSV testing usually isn't recommended after a single exposure and no symptoms. Best not to self test via a lab; and proper STD testing also requires vaginal exam and office tests. See MD.
