Very variable: Many people do not have any symptoms of acute HIV infections. The type of symptoms and duration is also very variable. If you have any doubt, get an HIV nucleic acid test through your doctor. You may consult this site for more info on this topic. http://www.med.unc.edu/infdis/actu/current-studies/acute-hiv ...Read more

How long would a sore throat caused by acute hiv last? What if I haven't had any other symptoms?

How long would a sore throat caused by acute hiv last? What if I haven't had any other symptoms?

Why do you ask?: I believe we have already visited. A simple sore throat without systemic signs is very, very unlikely to be HIV. Only you know whether you had a risky exposure a few weeks ago. If you did, you need to get a state-of-the-art HIV test simply because you're anxious. I've been with my partner for just over 12years, last year he was told he has HIV, he takes no meds, his cd count is 500+ how long has he had HIV?

It could be years: There's no way to know duration of your partner's HIV infection from this information. With near normal CD4 count, it's likely he has had it less than 5 years, but some people maintain their CD4 levels for 10+ years. It is amazing and disconcerting he hasn't told you about his HIV for over a year, and you probably are at very high risk yourself. Get tested ASAP and start using condoms with him. ...Read more
