Talk to Surgeon ASAP: There are many possible causes of a postop fever, but the one most concerning after your operation would be a wound infection (esp if mesh was used). A fever of 103.7 cannot be assumed to be viral--this requires a thorough evaluation. Please contact your surgeon asap. ...Read more

How long does it take for test results to confirm h1n1 flu?

How long does it take for test results to confirm h1n1 flu?

A week or so: In my area, it takes at least a week to confirm h1n1 or similar variant influenza strains. This kind of testing is rarely indicated because of that time frame, and if you have a positive flu test at this time of year, it is likely one of the novel forms of flu, though those are very rare. ...Read more

Been taking pseudophedrine HCl 60mg every 4-6 hrs for past 3 days due the flu. I have to take a drug test on monday. Will i test positive for meth?

Been taking pseudophedrine HCl 60mg every 4-6 hrs for past 3 days due the flu. I have to take a drug test on monday. Will i test positive for meth?

No: If drug tests are properly done, the initial test is a screening test, which then must be confirmed with more complex and sophisticated testing. Screening tests may show positive for amphetamine with use of sudafed and other decongestants, but the confirmatory tests will not be positive. If whoever is doing the test does not do confirmatory testing, you should seek your legal options if positive. ...Read more

Diagnosed with Flu B on Friday afternoon via nasal test but no symptoms. On Tamiflu since Fri. When can I go by others? Is a false positive possible?

Yes, now.: Why did you have the test with no symptoms? There is always a false positive possibility, but it is low. Symptoms generally arise 1-4 days after infection and you remain contagious for seven days starting from day 1. You are probably already in the clear. Not clear if tamiflu (oseltamivir) is indicated in your case, but if it has been prescribed take for five days then stop. ...Read more

I am 8 wks pregnant & was exposed to someone that had a positive flu test. My MD has prescribed tamiflu (oseltamivir). Should I take now or wait for symptoms?

Up to you: If your doctor has already prescribed the medication, one could safely assume s/he intended it to be taken as a preventative, which would be once daily for 10 days. As always, clarification with the prescribing physician to clarify the intent would be ideal. Staying healthy during pregnancy is extremely important. Best wishes. ...Read more

Very possibly: As you know, the hepatitis A IgM antibody tests for recent infection. False positives may result due to the presence of cross-reactive antibodies from other viral infection or underlying illnesses. Can flu shot cause a false positive on ANA test? If not what can? Im nervous im taking it to test if I have sle I have all sypmtoms and blood clots

See below: A viral infection is more apt to cause a false positive ANA if drawn to close to the infection as opposed to the vaccine. There are lots of false positives. The ANA is interpreted in context of other labs tests, your exam and your symptoms/history. If you have symptoms suggestive of lupus, you need to be tested as early intervention and treatment makes a big difference in the outcomes of lupus. ...Read more
