For most, maximum voluntary breath holding does not exceed 1 or 2 minutes, or loss of consciousness & death may occur. Mfm. ...Read more

If someone is unconscious, but breathing, do you need to perform cpr?

No: If they have a pulse and are breathing, there is no need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or chest compressions. Unconscious people can have both, one or none of the above. After brain stroke recovery in hospital suddenly ammonia 99, encephalopathy, unconcious, breathing on own, feeding thrgh tube, 3 days now , not conciou?

Elevated ammonia: will need to be brought down to below 76 (1.5 x upper limit of normal) This can be achieved with lactulose and neomycin or similar treatment. When someone is knocked unconscious, how long of a delay can there be between the impact and the loss of consciousness?

When someone is knocked unconscious, how long of a delay can there be between the impact and the loss of consciousness?

Usually immediate: Most times loss of consciousness is immediate. A delay of minutes to hours would be a cause for alarm and an immediate visit to the emergency room as an internal bleed in the head would need to be ruled out. Usually someone is knocked out (right away) for seconds to minutes and that in itself warrants and er visit. Any loss of consciousness basically needs to be evaluated in the emergency room. ...Read more
