How Long Can You Live Without Pooping
Hard to predict!: If one starts out normal, by the end of 1 week of no pooping, bad things should start to happen. Maybe severe abdominal pains. Maybe liquid poop will leak out the anus. Then liquid poop may come up as vomiting (looks very scary). If only leaking liquid poop, and not vomiting it, he could go on for a long time if he is able to eat, maybe months. If he can't eat, maybe by week 4 he will start dying. ...Read more
How long can a person go withouy pooping before it causes severe problems and what could happen from not pooping?
2 poop or not 2 poop: Anormal range of bowel movements is from twice daily to once a week. Going longer than that if you are on a normal diet is a concern. Fecal impaction can cause pain and even death in the debilitated individual. Time to stop eating and take some non-stimulant laxatives or a fleets enema. Talking to your doctor is also important as sometimes medications can bind you up. ...Read more
How long can a person go without pooping before serious problems arise. What kind of problems can arise from not pooping?
Not to long ago i had a hard time pooping, more then a few times just mucus came out. Lately it's been green and loose. What could be the cause?
REALLY STUCK: You are likely having liquid stools going around a giant solid log of poop. Start by doing a MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) clean out on the weekend. Put MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) into everything you drink until you poop clear. Then, the important thing is to not let it happen again. Stool softeners are pretty useless to actually "soften" stool. Titrate MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) every other day, or daily to avoid hard rocks. Drink more water, eat veg! ...Read more

Bowel movements: Frequency of bowel movements vary greatly from several times a day to just once weekly. What's most important is non-liquid stool that doesn't require strenuous pushing & straining. Had constipation iss for yrs, now I am pooping several times a day soft smaller amounts. 1 inch round, soft light brown 4-5 inches long is this normal?
Yes: Whatever you're doing, keep doing it. Constipation can cause a variety of deadly illnesses--especially colon cancer. Bile acids break down into potent carcinogens, if transit time is more than 24 hours, bathing the colon and lower intestines with cancer-causing poison. Keep your bowels moving regularly, and avoid colon cancer. ...Read more

Poop vision?: Hi~ the Science of Scatology is as yet an imperfect one ! I have no idea why your stools are NOT pencil thin. Are they supposed to be? If they were I might be a tad concerned. I spend too long on the toilet going poop and it will affect me professionally. I need to stay or else i wont feel finished. Is there a way to speedup?
For some people taking a fiber supplement like metamucil make make for "better" stools that evacuate more easily.
Also, try finding a regular time to have a BM when you do not have to be rushed to go to work so that you can take the time needed.
Alternatively, try "adjusting your mind" to realize that you do not have to get up from the toilet feeling finished. It's okay to go again later. ...Read more

My baby is 4 months old and strictly breastfed. Why was there a long, green, mucusy, stringy thing in her poop?
Stool varies: Stool color, consistency etc. Varies with diet, hydration, viruses, etc. Granted the baby's diet hasn't changed, but sometimes the poop is effected by what mom eats. Sometimes it's a virus that turns stool green. The most important thing is that the baby continues to nurse/drink/void/stool well, and is acting normal. If everything else is fine, don't worry about a little green poop. ...Read more
