Is it safe to give an 8 month old baby Infant Tylenol (acetaminophen) every day during teething to help with teething pain & discomfort? Baby's weight is 18 lbs.
Doubt any harm: A variety of items have been offered to qwell fussy babys since the 1700's, most implying some sort of stomach upset as the cause. A variety of gripe waters are available, some monitored by the fda and some not. Most appear to have harmless ingredients & in small amounts are probably fine. I have never recomended them.If i did it would be one monitored by the fda. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it safe to give gripe water to my 1 month old colic and gassy baby?If safe, what is the recommended dosage?
Thanks in advance :)
Unsure ingredients: Doctors usually don't give babies any medications, even over-the-counter items, unless there's good benefit. A mom can bring the item to the doctor to check the ingredients, but a little bit of a trusted brand of "gripe water" drops is ok to try. It may or may not help any colicky symptoms. If it doesn't seem to help, then it shouldn't be used. I don't recommend "gripe water" for my patients. ...Read more

They don't work. : Babies swallow air when crying & bottle-feeding. Till ~ 6 weeks, their intestinal smooth muscle does not coordinate propulsion of liquid & air. Use the "football hold". Put baby on your forearm, head at your elbow, face down. Press your palm against his tummy, flex his hips, encircle one leg with your fingers & roll him gently against your chest. Tilt head up to burp, tush up to pass gas. ...Read more
