Can 2 minute heart stop cause brain damage?

Can 2 minute heart stop cause brain damage?

Possibly: Any time your heart stops pumping, the blood in your arteries and veins stops flowing. Therefore all of the organs are not getting the blood they need to function. The brain is a very sensitive organ and can get damaged if it is not receiving proper blood flow. There are ways to check the brain for such damage. Talk to your doctor about seeing a neurologist. ...Read more

If you have a heart attack and then are revived with cpr, will you have brain damage?

If you have a heart attack and then are revived with cpr, will you have brain damage?

Maybe: This depends on the length of time the brain was without blood flow, and the situation after the person was revived. In fact now many patients after CPR can be treated with hypothermia, which involves cooling the body slightly while the patient is sedated, (roughly to a temp of 93 degrees f) for about 24 hrs, this lowers the risk of brain damage in many cases. Many other factors involved however. ...Read more

I have symptoms of severe B12 deficiency/pernicious anemia but also derealization, brain damage, and heart problems could these occur from the B12 def.?

Yes except heart: B12 deficiency can cause a variety of neurological symptoms including "derealization"; it can adversely affect brain function but that damage should be reversible. It can cause high homocysteine which increases risk of cardiovascular disease ; anemia puts stress on hearts, but it should not directly cause heart problems in someone your age. See

My sister went with oxygen for 7 minutes and a heart attack she a diabetic and had very low blood pressure kidney damage will she have brain damage?

Not sure: Adults who are deprived of oxygen due to cardiac arrest for over 5 minutes usually suffer brain damage. However since she did not have a cardiac arrest and, despite very low blood pressure, she may have had enough cerebral circulation to avoid significant brain damage. However because of diabetes and smoking history, she may have come vascular disease which increases her risk. Hope for the best. ...Read more

How do you know if you're having panic attacks? Outta no where I get nervous sweat heart and mind race sometimes get dizzy how can I make this stop?

Sounds like it: The missing usual symptom is the sensation that you are going to die (during attack / as result of it). Unfortunately, only long-term resolution is to address whatever is triggering them. This requires seeing a therapist/psychologist to identify problem. How long would it take for a tooth cavity to spread to the heart or brain?

Why are you waiting?: An acute infection from a tooth into the parapharyngeal airspaces or into the cavernous sinus is a direct pathway to the brain, and airways. If this occurs, its life threatening, and you won't have a lot of time to ask questions. If you have a cavity, get it filled or get the tooth pulled. After cardiac arrest: The Drs will gradually re-warm him over the next couple of days. By about 72 hrs we usually start to decrease the meds and try to wake him. A good sign will be if he can open his eyes to voice at that time, once all meds are worn off. If he is not opening eyes once off the meds for 48 h or so, that may mean there is significant brain damage. You will hopefully know more within a few days ...Read more

How do u get a full evaluation of the brain, heart, blood? I'm getting very lightheaded & has had mri&ct 6mths ago normal. & had a full blood work up!

Hmmm...: Well, I doubt we'll be able to do this in 400 characters, but the lightheadedness is often broken down into several categories. If it's fainting or near-fainting spells, that's called syncope or near-syncope and we usually check with a cardiologist about that. If it's like the sensation you get when you stand up too fast, it may be low blood pressure, especially if you're on meds. ...Read more
