How long does the initial breakout last with tretinoin, i'm using it and getting zits in places I have never before ?

Be patients: Your acne probably will get worse (red, scaling skin and an increase in acne sores) during the first 7-10 days that you use this medication. Nevertheless, continue to use it; the acne sores should disappear. Usually 2-3 weeks (and sometimes more than 6 weeks) of regular use of tretinoin is required before improvement is seen. Address concerns to your doctor. ...Read more

I used Accutane for 1year, it worked, i stopped and the acne came back 1 year after. How long do I have to be on it for the results to be permanent?

I used Accutane for 1year, it worked, i stopped and the acne came back 1 year after. How long do I have to be on it for the results to be permanent?

Function of age: The recurrence of your acne is more likely because you are not entirely through puberty and still having fluctuations in hormonal levels, causing excessive secretions and plugging of pores. The Accutane effect held on for a while after stopping it, but then with no treatment recurred. Usually for females hormonal fluctuation should resolve by mid-20's, so you may need intervention a few years yet. ...Read more

How long before getting a facial or chemical peel should I stop using renin-a? I am using retin-a for acne but would like to get a facial. Do i need to be off of retin-a for any amount of time?

It : It depends what type of facial or chemical peel you are talking about, but in general i typically recommend that patients stop Retin-A a few days prior to their chemical peel. Again, it depends on the depth and type of peel so i would discuss with your dermatologist. Read more about the vitalize chemical peels i find to be very helpful at the link below. I hope that helps! ...Read more

I have been on doxycycline and finacea (rosacea bumps) for 2 and a half weeks. When can I expect to see results?

I have been on doxycycline and finacea (rosacea bumps) for 2 and a half weeks. When can I expect to see results?

Probably acne: If it is acne rather than rosacea, response to Doxycycline for adult females is poor, only 10% respond. When they do respond it is in 2-3 months. Response with rosacea is rapid: 1-2 weeks of 50mg a day. You may find that the most effective remedy for you is spironolactone, probably 100mg a day. At your age acne is much more common than rosacea. See a dermatologist. ...Read more

I have a bad skin fungal infection for about a month, barely started medicating correcly. How long will it clear up, and what meds most effective?

Depends: If the fungal infection is tinea - like ringworm and it has been there for a month then the best treatment would likely be topical terbinafine AND oral terbinafine for at least 14 days. If it is in the scalp then treatment takes longer. If it is more of a yeast infection - like jock itch - then fluconazole might be more effective. That would be treated for 2 - 10 days depending on severity. ...Read more
