How long does it take for your body to adjust to not having celexa (citalopram)? Was on it for 5 months. Been off it for 23 days now. Was on 20mg.
Celexa (citalopram): If the Celexa (citalopram) was helping symptoms of depression, stopping it too soon could risk relapse. In that way, your body would "adjust" to not being on the medicine but you'd still have depression to contend with. The elimination half-life of Celexa (citalopram) is 23-45 hours, so it should be pretty much out of your system by now. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

And months or two later depression comes back, but they always blame on something for this new depress. ...Read more
Withdrawal / relapse: Ssris like Celexa (citalopram) may cause a "discontinuation syndrome" that starts a day or two after stopping, especially if the med is not tapered off. This usually lasts a few days but can persist a week or more. Ssris continue to work in the body for a few weeks after stopping, so a relapse (eg, the original depression returning) might occur after that, ie a few weeks later. ...Read more
