Menstrual Cycle (Definition)

The menstrual cycle begins with the shedding of the uterine lining, resulting in bleeding from the vagina. A few weeks later, one ovary releases an egg and the uterine lining thickens in preparation for a potential pregnancy. Pregnancy can occur at this stage if sperm fertilizes the egg. If the egg is not fertilized, the egg will leave your body and ...Read more

Can you tell me about it's like to take progesterone suppositories for infertility & experienced a heavy painful 1st period?

Can you tell me about it's like to take progesterone suppositories for infertility & experienced a heavy painful 1st period?

Sure: Progesterone suppositories are inserted once or twice daily inside your vagina. Most do not have any problems with it. Some women can have some discharge and some can have bloating and feel crampy. Some feel drowsy. Most feel completely normal. Painful 1st period may just be related to having a stressful cycle trying to conceive or from all the hormones you have taken. Good Luck to you

For luteal phase I’m on progesterone suppositories 2x/day, today is CD30, blood hcg test negative. Should I stop progesterone suppositories altogether?

Most likely: You will need to confirm the instruction for use with the prescribing doctor. Most likely they are prescribing it for the 2nd half of the cycle. Confirm before stopping on your own

Shall I continue to take junior aspirin after a neg pregnancy test IUI two weeks just finished cyclogest (progesterone) suppositories will I get a heavy period?

Shall I continue to take junior aspirin after a neg pregnancy test IUI two weeks just finished cyclogest (progesterone) suppositories will I get a heavy period?

Depends: I normally have my patients continue their low-dose Aspirin throughout their cycle. Ask your physician though, they may want you to stop the low-dose Aspirin with a menstrual cycle. It normally doesn't increase the flow of the menstrual cycle though.

Can you go swimming when taking progesterone suppositories 100mg?

Suppository: As long as they are not causing you to be nauseated, I am unaware of any contraindication to progesterone suppositories and swimming. Probably prudent to wait an hour to swim to let the suppository to absorb before swimming.

Am on progesterone suppository. Is there any way to find placenta has taken over progesterone production at 12 wks before stopping suppository?

Am on progesterone suppository. Is there any way to find placenta has taken over progesterone production at 12 wks before stopping suppository?

Luteal phase defect: I use progesterone in the 1st trimester quite a bit for borderline progesterones and luteal phase defect. I don't check the levels after 12 weeks because the placenta produces a sufficient amount and losses from low progesterone occur much earlier. Certainly a progesterone can be done once off the suppositories, but while you're taking them the level in your blood will reflect total progesteron

Does progesterone suppositories cause brown discharge? I'm 5weeks 4days btw

Not really: It's common to have some brown spotting early in pregnancy. It is not caused by the Progesterone though. An ultrasound in a week or so should be able to see if you have a viable embryo. In the meantime, you should continue the Progesterone as directed by your doctor. And call the doctor if you have any bright red bleeding!

Is discharge normal with prometrium (micronized progesterone) suppositories?

Yes: With almost all the progesterone formulations it will be normal to have vaginal discharge as the progesterone liquefies. A product called "Crinone" does not have this effect and works the same.

Is it normal to get pink discharge after taking progesterone suppositories vaginally? What is the reason for the pink discharge? Did IUI yesterday.

Discuss with doctor: Best to discuss this with your ob/gyn doctor. There could be a number of reasons. Plus, they need to manage your cycles, and monitor your response to the Progesterone suppositories prescribed. So don't delay.

I was just put on progesterone suppositories at 7weeks my level was 10 and I'm on 40mg 2times a day. Is that a good mg or should I be getting more?

Progesterone (PG): Check with your OB if you haven't done so already about when she plans to re-check your progesterone levels. She can tell you what PG levels are ideal and if you need to adjust the dose.
