No limit : There is no true limit on time. If it is just begging on the disease- may be first attack - can happen with in couple hrs, however, as disease progresses pain can become more constant. Just because an: Ultrasound was clear does not clear the gallbladder. Sometimes if it is very sluggish in emptying it will cause the same symptoms and the only cure is surgical removal . You look for it in a test called a HIDA scan. Best. ...Read more

Hard to answer: Worth investigating with your doctor. If you have jaundice (yellow skin or eyes) there could be a retained stone. If you have an ulcer, symptoms might be nearly same. If there is abnormal flow through the end of the bile duct, you could have symptoms.
