Crude measure: If mucous behaves normally, big if, it changes from clear elastic to thick and non elastic with progesterone. So ovulation is a retrospectively evaluated event. When the change is noted, ovulation likely occurred 2-3 days prior. One should have sex roughly every 48 hours from cycle days 11-18 to best cover ovulation and it can't be better than that. Some will see "mucous" for days before ovul. ...Read more

I have long cycles like 35 days usually, and i always ovulate on cd21. I always have cervical mucus. Does it effect my egg quality since a bit late?
Does egg white cervical mucus happen before ovulation or does it mean you are ovulating, if before how long can it start before ovulation takes place?
Mucous not ovulation: In someone who has classic 28-day cycles, the mucous you describe from the cervix does become more abundant prior to ovulation. Because sperm can live for 2 - 5 days in the female genital tract, the appearance of the cervical mucous precedes ovulation and points to the "fertile time" during the cycle. If one is doomed not to ovulate, the appearance of mucous has no meaning. ...Read more
Roughly...: Around the time of ovulation, the amount of cervical mucus increases and it becomes more thin, clear, watery and elastic in response to estrogen produced in the body. After ovulation as the body shifts from estrogen to progesterone, the mucus becomes more thick, opaque and sticky. Tracking these changes can help you to know when you may ovulate, but is not a very reliable form of birth control! ...Read more
No mucus: Obviously this is a concern… since this mucus is driven by estrogen which peaks midcycle i wonder about ovulation. Have you had any surgery done to your cervix-cryosurgery for an abnormal pap smear/cervical dysplasia or a leep procedure? I think a midcycle ultrasound will help elucidate whether or not your ovulating and you can actually see the mucus in the canal by ultrasound at that time. ...Read more

IUI or letrozole: The effectiveness of IUI with a normal semen analysis. Clomid (clomiphene) does create a mucous problem in about 40% of patients so IUI can make sense if that is the stim drug. Letrozole on the other hand does not cause a mucous problem. in our opinion, IUI is not needed for letrozole. In conclusion, if Clomid (clomiphene) is your drug, IUI can be helpful and likely would yield a PR of 8-13%/cycle. Good Luck ...Read more

Had clear, kinda stretchy cervical mucus last week and the next day it was white. Was i ovulating?
Probably: Clear stretchy cervical mucous is an Estradiol effect and is most prominent when the estrogen level is at it's highest during the ovulation phase of a menstrual cycle. Women are most fertile when their mucous is clear and stretchy, the basis behind birth control using the billings method. If ttc, concentrating intercourse during these days is helpful. Avoid sex then if avoiding pregnancy. ...Read more
What if you have a the symptoms of ovulation but no cervical mucus? Does it mean i really didnt ovulate?
Is it normal for cervical mucus to stop completely after a few hours? Does this mean that your done ovulating?
No: Better than cervical mucus detection at determining when ovulation has occurred, is basal body temperature. There's much greater discrepancy in detecting cervical mucus, then there is in measuring a temperature. To answer your question, there isn't enough data to determine whether ovulation is "done" based on mucus. ...Read more
