10 days: On the average (I've seen 400 of these), while it is healing, it still has an inflammatory mass for 10 days. You will feel this fullness for about 10 days, sometimes less. It should be soft by 10 days. ...Read more

On penicillian 4 days lanced tooth abcess but returned immediatly and swelling in eye. Pain decreased but numbness and swelling same. Back to er?
I and D: Yes, you need to go back for an evaluation and treatment asap. Most ER's have no dental specialist to treat you. You are better off seeing a dentist (probably an Endodontist or Periodontist depending upon the cause of the abscess). However, if you cannot get an appointment right away, go back to the ER. A change in dosage, frequency, or antibiotic + further treatment is probably in order. ...Read more

I got an abscess lanced. I went for a wound check up and they decided not to repack it and I'll just pull some out each day and cut it is that normal?
Superfast healing: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation (red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected. ...Read more
An abscess is accompanied by inflammation. The drainage removes fluid (pus) associated with an infection, but the inflammation remains for a while after the drainage procedure. In fact, the drainage can cause more inflammation.
Pain is a typical sign/symptom of inflammation.
It should subside in a short time. ...Read more

I have gotten an abscess down their and it really hurt. I got it lanced&drained, but prescribed mupirocin, what am I supposed to do with it?
Won't cure abscess: Sometimes lancing gum boil (incision ; drainage) combined with antibiotics will help control spread of infection. To eliminate the infection, however, the tooth requires definitive treatment, either root canal/cap or extraction/implant/cap. Can't "cure" an abscess with a lance. Please see your dentist before infection spreads further. ...Read more
Had first Abscess near anus, lanced/drained, 3months later abscess near groin, lanced/drained, think im getting another near anus again, why??!!
Perianal fistula?: I would worry about an underlying perianal fistula, especially for recurrence near the anus and perhaps also the groin. A fistula is a defect in the rectum burrowing toward the skin. If so, more extensive surgery may be required to remove it. You also may need evaluation for underlying problems like inflammatory bowel disease. Ask your doctor about it. ...Read more
This is way to difficult to do looking in a mirror, I would be concerned that you could do quite a bit of damage in your attempt.
This is a dental problem, you need to see your dentist asap to determine the exact cause of your abscess and perform the correct treatment and only prescribe the correct dose of the right medication.

No: The "gum boil" is the result of infection trying to move to the area of least resistance. If you pop it at home without supervision then you risk spreading the infection. Amoxicillin typically takes 2 - 3 days to work. If it is not painful then be patient for a couple of days, it may go away. If not call your healthcare provider. ...Read more
I had an abscess lanced and packed 2 days ago in ER by a PA. The abscess is even bigger and more painfull! Is it possible she overpacked it?
Abscess: Often abcess can have multiple septa and the PA may not have broken all of them and you may have a cavity that is growing. Increasing pain and size is concerning. Based on location you may need a formal surgerical intervention. Best of seek care and see if a surgeon can examine and determine what need to be done. Abx are needed for a short duration of the abcess is opened up. ...Read more
I just had an abscess lanced at the emergency room, but my face is even more swollen and red and the abscess is still there. Is this normal?
Abscesses/Cellulitis: An abscess is a collection of pus usually from a bacterial infection. When an abscess is lanced the collection of pus is released, but the bacterial infection, in this case *cellulitis, can probably still be there with the symptoms. Antibiotics usually resolve this and pus exits through the wound as the condition resolves. Local care with soap and water is recommended. No improvement, see PCP. ...Read more
I had an abscess lanced 2 days ago near my groin area. It doesn't hurt much but it's still draining like crazy. I was told to remove the packing?
Wound care: It's true that you don't want to leave packing in place for too long-it will start to smell and become really grungy, so it must be changed. If it's already been 2 days, it REALLY needs to be changed now, particularly if it's foul. I hope they gave you some gauze or something to replace the packing with. Otherwise I would call right away for proper wound management. You don't want to neglect it. ...Read more

I am a 28 yr old female w/recurring abscess in my groin (not a bartholian). I habe had it lanced at ER on the 9th this month now it moved about 2 cm.?
Abscess on right lower labia Majora/perineum for second time in little over year. Had it lanced last time, will have to again. What causing it recur?
Bartholin gland: This appears to be a recurrent Batholin gland abscess which means that the infection is still present in the gland after lancing which smolders and later flares up. Antibiotics are typically given post lancing and a recommendation to have a minor surgical procedure to open the gland permanently (Marsupialization) would be in order to prevent recurrences. ...Read more
