How long after a disc bulges should I wait before I exercise again?

How long after a disc bulges should I wait before I exercise again?

Varies: Mostly because it is unclear if a disc bulge is really the cause of pain. Back pain can be from many sources and is usually not from disc pathology. If a disc is involved, you can still exercise but may need tomodify your activities. See a pt or an osteopath for more details but remember to always start slow after an injury. ...Read more

Does exercise help a bulging lumbar disc?

Does exercise help a bulging lumbar disc?

Back strengthening: As one who has a bulging disc (and no surgery), back strengthening exercises are very important to help stabilize the back. I recommend the "superman" exercise: lying on your stomach, stretch your arms out like you're flying through the air like superman. For 5 seconds, raise your right arm and shoulder, and left leg and hip off the floor, then repeat on the other side. Do this 12x on each side. ...Read more

Please tell me how long it takes for to heal, after having surgery for two bulging discs?

Depends: Depends completely upon the type of surgery anticipated. Understand, your terminology may be different than your surgeon's. Disc bulge, is not, in and of itself, an indication for surgery. A disc herniation with sciatica is—2-3 months before back to normal. Disk problem requiring fusion—3-6 months before back to normal. Plan on upper end of estimate for 2 levels. ...Read more

I read bouncing on exercise ball will help disc heal. Is that true for a degenetated & bulging disc?

No: Discs typically do not heal. However, that doesn't mean that you can't live pain-free. A ruptured disk will often shrink away from a nerve. A herniated or bulging disk as you call it can move around but bouncing on a ball does not promise which direction it moves. If you are having symptoms, see a physical therapist or chiropractor. ...Read more

How often does a l5-s1 bulging disc shrink compared to other discs? And how long does it usually take to shrink?

usually they don't.: Over the many years the water content of discs decreases and they can "shrink" in size. However the co-relation of bulging and pain is poor. Many people with absolutely no pain have bulging discs which are found incidentally. ...Read more

I may have a disc bulge in C4 or C5 how long does this usually take to heal? I have an overdoor traction how often shld I use this?

No "healing" here: Disc bulges of the spinal column can be found in over 40% of MRI's of folks who are entirely have no complaints of pain. There is really no "healing" that occurs with a bulging disc since nothing is really "damaged" yet. It may or may not reduce itself depending on what you do with exercises, exertional activities etc. Use the traction device as instructed by your doctor or therapist. ...Read more
