How Is Acupuncture Helpful For Weight Reduction
Not really.: There aren't good randomized control studies that show accupuncture causes weight loss. To achieve weight loss, you have to expend more calories than you take in. Weight loss takes work. There is no magic bullet to lose weight - not pills, not herbs, not accupuncture. If there was an easy way to do it, everyone would be thin. It's all about diet and exercise. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Acupuncture is a treatment based on Chinese medicine -- a system of healing that dates back thousands of years. At the core of Chinese medicine is the notion that a type of life force, or energy, known as qi (pronounced "chee") flows through energy pathways (meridians) in the body. Each meridian corresponds to one organ, or group of organs, that governs particular bodily functions. Achieving the proper flow of qi is thought to create health and wellness. Qi maintains the dynamic balance of yin and yang, which are complementary opposites. According to Chinese medicine, everything in nature has both yin and yang. An imbalance of qi (too much, too little, or blocked flow) causes disease. To restore balance to the qi, an acupuncturist inserts needles at points along the meridians. These acupuncture points are places where the energy pathway is close to the ...Read more
Maybe, maybe not: If a person snacks or eats more when he is stressed out, then acupuncture might decrease stress and eating. If he is at the acupuncture clinic, then he is not at the grocery store, the bar, or the restaurant, so he is getting fewer calories. However, if he is getting acupuncture instead of jogging, biking, or swimming, then he is burning fewer calories . . . And might not lose weight in that case. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Categorically NO!: I know of no indication or recognized treatment of accupuncture for treating arrhythmia. It is not a choice i would make and i would be very, very cautious to know the risks involved and any other treatments recommended and certainly the advice of the participating physician (cardiologist/electrophysiologist). Be careful! be very careful! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
It depends: There are always three factors involved in answering this kind of question: 1) the nature of the condition, 2) how responsive you are to acupuncture and 3) the skillfulness of the acupuncturist. Responsiveness is a built- in trait and 3-6 treatments will reveal how well you respond to acupuncture and if it is helping. Depending on how serious or chronic your condition, you may need more treatment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes: I've treated multiple patients with trigeminal neuralgia with acupuncture with good success.
