Xray and pain eval: Oxycodone is not a good medication for you anyway. You will first need xray and full clinical exam to see why you have pains. There are other non-opioid pain meds and you doc may refer home exercise program and other modalities such as ice/heat. www.chrisohmd.com. ...Read more

Options: If your doctor feels you are at risk for abusing your meds ask for other options. Tell your doctor you need more help. It may be true that you need more medication, but it is important that you look into other therapies that can work with your medication. Good luck to you... Finding the right treatment can take time. I'm been taking flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) for years now, and it just doesn't seem to work like it used to. Are there any others' that would work better for my back?

I'm been taking flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) for years now, and it just doesn't seem to work like it used to. Are there any others' that would work better for my back?

None: Muscle relaxants aren't meant to be taken for years (the Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) insert recommends only 2 - 3 weeks of use). I would argue that for the majority of patients, chronic medications are not a good treatment for chronic back pain. By far the best treatment is to go back to the basics: regular exercise, increased activity, good diet, weight loss, and smoking cessation. ...Read more

If someone has had more than 25 ect treatments and they still feel somewhat the same, and is not taking any depression medication, and she feels like hurtiing herself sometimes not as bad as before but its still there, what should I do ?

Hello. : Hello. Sounds like a complex situation. Ect can be exceptionally helpful in severe, recalcitrant depression. It is sometimes used for people who can not tolerate medications. Psychiatrists can not give information out to others (without written authorization) but they can accept information. If the person is supposed to be taking medications but isn't, that would be important for her doctor to know. Sometimes people disclose to their psychiatrist that they are having thoughts of self -harm but also may not. When i trained with ect, one of the things we had to be watchful for was suicidal thoughts. If a person has chronic thoughts about suicide or self-harm they may not have the drive to carry it out if they are too depressed. However, when they just begin improving, they may now have the energy to act on the suicidal thoughts and could now be at even more risk. ...Read more
