Slight possibility: Cystic lesions of the ovary smaller than 4-5 cm. are usually benign. For those that may be converting to a malignant state the cystic component tends to become complex. Because angiogenic factors play a role in the malignant lesion, hypervascular components to this type of cystic structure raise questions as to transformation. At your age, the chances of cancer are very small unless you have a strong family history of ovarian and/or breast cancer. Yes it can: Complex cysts can be cancerous depending on their size and rate of growth. A CA125 test can help decide its nature. Ultrasound is a good test to measure increase in size and also may show any solid components inside the cyst.
