If your memory of recent events is normal, and you can recall things that happened last week, your inability to recall your childhood would possibly mean that there may have been events that were traumatic or upsetting. There may be nothing: Wrong with you or you may be suffering greatly. The fact that you cannot remember is common among sexual abuse victims. It is indeed a common reason for someone to enter therapy. Painful memories can easily be repressed. There's no problem with that as long as they do not affect your mood, behavior, or relationships in adulthood. If they do, then it would be advisable for you to enter therapy to explore the issue further. If you wish to remember what happened, then more of an uncovering psychoanalytictherapy with hypnotic components may be advisable.
