How Eating Too Much Fruit Causes Gout
I have not eaten fruit since I was 6 (with the exception of tomatoes and fruit juice). Am I at high risk for gout or other diseases?
Is fruit salt that makes a sparkling drink in water a good light preventive treatment for gout or elevated uric acid?
Not really unless -: You are prone to getting it, because you have a strong family history of it. Keeping you weight in check according to your height and doing regular exercises & eating healthy can reduce your chances of getting it. Excess of anything can be bad for you, so be wary.
Perhaps: It's hard to say how much fruit is too much, however if you are a borderline diabetic, too much fruit could be a problem.
Any time calories: Eaten is more than calories burned - this can lead to weight gain. This can even go for fruits and vegetables. However, it is important to have fruits and vegetables in your diet. Often people who have a healthy intake of fruits and especially vegetables (without excesses of other types of food) are able to lose weight.
Maybe: Some beans and nuts have high levels of purines, the precursors of the uric acid that causes gout. However, the effect of vegetable purines on gout seems to be less than those that come from meat. The best strategy in the long run is to eat a healthy, balanced diet and to take any prescribed medications for gout on a regular basis.See 1 more doctor answer
Not likely: Foods richer in purines, such as red meat might possibly do it more than grains.
What crystals cause gout? Is there a particular food or drink I can avoid, to avoid eating or drinking whatever makes the crystals?
Sodium urate crystal: People with gout have an elevated uric acid and this can lead to the production of monosodium urate crystals that can precipitate in the tissues and in the joints and cause the gout attacks. In the susceptible individual alcohol, red meat can worsen this. Fortunately there are medications that can control and bring down the uric acid level and help prevent further attacks.See 2 more doctor answers
Worsens it: Gout is a metabolic disease of purine metabolism. It is worsened by high fat and protein load as well as alcohol. A primary dr should be able to give recommendations on dietary restriction, hydration and possibly medication to help limit the acute flares of gout.See 1 more doctor answer

Elevated uric acid: Uric acid is a breakdown product that builds up in the blood. In people with gout it can be due to the body making too much and/or not excreting it efficiently. There can be many medical reasons for the build up of uric acid. This can lead to the production of monosodium urate crystals that can precipitate in the tissues and joints and cause the gout attack: evaluation and treatment depends.See 1 more doctor answer
Uric acid: In gout, uric acid over accumulates in the body. When the uric acid crystallizes, it forms microscopic needle shaped crystals. A gout arthritis attack is one of the most severe joint pains. Other symptoms of gout can be kidney stones or chalky deposits in the skin. Gout can cause joint deformity. The good news is that gout is a very treatable disease with dietary changes and medications.See 1 more doctor answer
Almonds are healthy: Almonds are very healthy for us. They contain unsaturated fats, vitamins, particularly Vit E, and some protein. The protein almonds contain are not going to spike your serum uric acid, which provokes gout. Almonds contain oxalate, which can crystallize in urine to promote calcium oxalate stones. Be sure you balance your diet, eat well, drink 3 liters per day, and enjoy almonds-an excellent food.See 2 more doctor answers
