How Easy Ebv Is Spread
The epstein–barr virus (ebv) is a virus in the herpesvirus family and is one of the most common viruses in humans. Ebv is best known as the cause of infectious mononucleosis, and infection with ebv occurs by the oral transfer of saliva and/or genital secretions, hence the moniker "the kissing disease". In the us, about 90 to 95 percent of all adults have ...Read more
Epstein Barr virus +: A person has been exposed to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). This is the cause of infectious mononucleosis (Mono) and is associated with certain cancers. A POSITIVE blood test (antibody test) only means exposure to the virus but not necessarily active disease. Seroepidemiologic survey indicates that over 95% of adults worldwide are infected with EBV. Transplant registry for instance will prove this ...Read more
If EBV caused a massive reaction for the body to attack its own nerve cells, what diseases are we looking at?
NOT USUALLY MASSIVE: Not sure what you are looking for, but here's my take on ebv. There is a strong relationship to adult ms (99% have had some infection in past, but 95% of normals also). Of course, it can cause infectious mono, and maybe chronic fatigue. Not clear whether in some cases related to cancers, lymphomas (burkitt's), hematological disorders, and rarely acute neurological events (gbs?)-not proven. ...Read more
I was just diagnosed with chronic active ebv. I've had severe symptoms for over 2years. Should I be concerned?
Yes/NIH study: Chronic active EBV infection is a rare and serious condition. Recent treatments include immunomodulators such as interferon gamma, and pre-clinical studies of bortezomib, and valproic acid are promising. Reduced intensity hematopoetic stem cell transplantation with nondestructive pretreatment is curative. http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00032513 Please consider signing up for this study. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Can I be causing EBV flare up around the same time each year when i increase my daily workout as summer approaches?
Nothing: Unless you are sick, see your doctor. Most people have EBV IgG +ve ! Why was the test done, how was your clinical picture, is what matters more, self treatment/medicating isn't good, only will lead to more confusion together with the use of Dr Google. See your doctor or a doctor you trust if you really suffer, good luck ...Read more
None known: Some doctors are treating ebv with valcyclocir, but there is no evidence that it is effective. A healthy body will almost certainly clear the virus by itself. The problem is that you'll feel bad for a long time if you don't let your body recover. Sleep, nutrition, and not over exercising are the things that need to be focused on until you feel healthy again. ...Read more
Depends: It depends on whether the titer is igg, which would mean you either have chronic infection or more likely you were just exposed to it in the past, or igm, which would mean you were recently exposed to it or possibly acute/ new infection. I need to know why it was ordered and whether you have any symptoms associated with the titier. ...Read more
Probably not: Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a rare tumor that is benign, but very aggressive. Many cancers of the nasopharynx (nose and throat) are associated with epstein-barr virus (ebv), but not this one. There was a paper written in 2008 that looked at 15 nasopharygeal angiofibromas and found no evidence of ebv. (carlos et al, head and neck pathology, sept 2008 volume 2 issue 3 pp 145-149.). ...Read more
Virus and Clinical: Condition. Ebv is epstein barr virus, it is a common of the clinical condion called infectious mononucleosis. Ebv also causes other diseases, e.g. Lymphoma, oropharyngeal cancer etc. Other viruses, e.G, cytomegalovirus can cause a picture similar to infectious mononucleosis, "mono". ...Read more
Maybe:see below: The eb virus test is positive for about 90% of the population. It does not, by itself indicate mononucleosis. If the eb virus becomes active and actually cause "mono" the test becomes much more positive. I have seen mandy kids with this diagnosis and treated them very easily with vitamind/mineral supplements and correction of an often appalling diet. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Immunoglobulins:: High igg means the person was exposed to the infective agent in the past or got vaccination against it, means immunity against it. High igm means, the person has new exposure or infection now. Eb virus causes mono, infects 95% of world population, 1/3rd. Cases occur during adolescence and young adulthood, virus shed in oral secretions >6mo after an infection. ...Read more
