Excess iodine will: stimulate the thyroid gland to work harder. if you have not had total ablation, and assuming you have some residual however small synthetic activity in the glands, you will notice an increase in thyroid function with your Synthroid, (thyroxine) perhaps mild hyperthyroid symptoms as well. Please talk with your endocrinologist prior to taking supplements like these. ...Read more

I hav no thyroid gland; my TSH was 0.01 & I was taking 150 mcg a.m. Now taking 1/2 tab of 112 mcg. Can you hav rapid hrt rate if not enough Synthroid (thyroxine)?

I hav no thyroid gland; my TSH was 0.01 & I was taking 150 mcg a.m. Now taking 1/2 tab of 112 mcg. Can you hav rapid hrt rate if not enough Synthroid (thyroxine)?

No: Rapid heart rate may be a symptom of being on TOO MUCH thyroid hormone but not too little. From your test results, a whole 150 mcg tablet was too much but cutting the dose to 56 mcg (1/2 of a 122 mcg tablet) may be too big a reduction. You might want to consult with an endocrinologist to help adjust your dosage. ...Read more

Should a person with hyper thyroidism take typical thyroid medication like Synthroid (thyroxine)?

Usually not: Usually, a person with hyperthyroidism has too much thyroid hormone in her body. One would take Synthroid (thyroxine) (synthetic hormone) to make up for a lack of enough thyroid hormone due to HYPOthyroidism. A person with HYPOthyroidism who becomes hyperthyroid due to taking too high of a dose of Synthroid (thyroxine) might be asked to take Synthroid (thyroxine) (at a lower dose) even though she is temporarily hyperthyroid. ...Read more
