How Does Sudafed Affect Your Ear Health
Can help: If you have eustachian tube dysfunction (problems equalizing ear pressure) those meds can sometimes help. Sudafed is not a good medication for long term use, however, especially if you have high blood pressure or a heart problem. Discuss with your doctor or ent. Those medicines will generally not affect balance problems or hearing loss which is not due to fluid build up on the ear. Best wishes.See 1 more doctor answer
If I don't take sudafed before a flight my ears drum will perforate how normal is this, what can I do?
Depends: If sudafed helps, you should as long as it does not produce side effects - insomnia, blood pressure etc. However since you have received only partial relief from sudafed, you should check with your doctor to get something more effective. Some times a plugged ear is not really a plugged ear at all.
My ears have been plugged up and ringing for a month. It gets worse at night and in the morning. There is some fluid when I wake up in the morning. I tried a nasal spary and sudafed but they didn't work. Will this ever go away?
Dr said I had fluid in my ear. I took sudafed for two days, is that enough? Or what do I need to do? I cant even tell I have fluid
ITs safe to use, but: I'm not sure it will relieve pressure in your ear, but it is worth a try
I have clogged ears for about 2 weeks now. I just recently got over bad cold that lead to pneumonia. I ve tried everything. Sudafed, zyertec. Please he?
See your doc: This can be slow to clear on its own. Feel like you have a fish bowl over your head? If you no longer have fluid or an infection in the middle ear then sometimes we resort to a course of Prednisone (which does carry a risk of rare but serious side effects). Sometime OTC Afrin nasal spray can give temporary relief but DO NOT use more than 3 days or you might get hooked because of rebound.
My 16 year old son has had a plugged ear (muted hearing, crackling) for the past 2 weeks following a cold. He has been taking Sudafed which hasn't helped much. Is there anything else he can try and at what point should he be seen. He says he isn't experie
Common issue: During a cold many of the membranes in the upper airway & middle ear are swollen. This can affect the ability of the Eustachian tube. This tube drains mucus & also allows air into that space to maintain correct pressure across the eardrum. The cracking he hears is the tube opening/closing. This should self correct in time. Pain, fever or the nuisance factor can be your guide to when a visit is neededSee 1 more doctor answer
I went to quick care and they said I have fluid in my ear they have me 30mg sudafed but I have hypertension I don't think I can drink this right?
I have a clogged ear that has lasted for several months, and often partially clears at night. Ear cleaning + sudafed from doctor didn't help, what now?
Sudafed PE has helped at times to keep my Eustachian Tube open and fluid out of middle ear is it safe to use long term? ENT I went to wasn't any help.
Phenylepherine: Is a potent systemic decongestant, and is sold OTC, you want to be cautious using it long term on your own, please read the labels carefully for side effects and drug-drug interaction. Saline nasal washes, and at times steroid nasal sprays can help too, but that doesn't replace doctor's evaluation. You can have a second opinion, if you have access to another ENT, it is your right as a patient
I am in severe pain with my ears and sinuses. Mucinex, (guaifenesin) ibuprofen and sudafed aren't cutting it. Help?
Time to visit: Your physician. More aggressive treatment, possibly with antibiotics may be indicated. You need a detailed history and physical exam.
I have a hacking cough, clogged ears, loss of appetite and dry vomiting. Dylsum, nyquil, dayquil, and sudafed haven't worked. What should I do?
Always feels like there's water in r ear (no pain). Helps if I take sudafed & allergy pills; never goes away 100%. Why would that be? Should I worry?
See ENT for exam: Could be an eustachian tube issue, inner ear issue, possibly sinus issue, or just the way you feel things...Needs an exam by expert to sort out.
