Can you get a low blood platelet count if you are sick from just a cold or stomach virus?

After you recover from the virus, your bone marrow will recover and so will your counts. If they don't, other causes will need to be considered. In addition, some people develop immune thrombocytopenic purpura after an illness (an autuimmune destruction of platelets). ...Read more

Had stomach virus 2 weeks ago. Am well now but poop still watery and sometimes looks like a pile of dirt in toilet...Why? Also blood in poop

See a GI doctor: If this blood is actually in your stool and not just on the toilet paper you are bleeding from somewhere in your lower GI tract and that needs urgent investigation. You should also not be having watery stools 2 wks after a viral illness if that is what it really was. Go asap and get this diagnosed professionally. ...Read more

Daughter is sick with the stomach virus and can't even keep liquids down. What should I do?

Offer small portions: There are different causes for vomiting. Obviously viral gastroenteritis is among the more common reasons. If not kept hydrated with oral electrolyte fluids, this can lead to dehydration. Try pedialyte popsicles, or offer one spoonful at a time; or try electrolyte solution given with a water pistol. I think I had the stomach virus, and wasn't able to eat for a week. Now my stomach is really bloated. Is this just because of air?
