Eliminating estrogen: Letrozole like anastrazole and Exemestane is an aromatase inhibitor. In postmenopausal pts, the ovaries no longer produce estrogen but the body creates low levels of estrogen via the enzyme aromatase. The ais block this enzyme thus eliminating any estrogen. In premenopausal pts, this actually causes a feedback that stimulates the ovaries to make more estrogen thus it can't be used to treat er+. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It helps, not sure : If you have the so-called polycystic ovarian syndrome and Insulin resistance problem with lower chance of fertility, the use of metformin can help, but no one really knows how truly effective it is or how long it takes. Sperm death: Well, this is got to be one of the more unusual questions here. I'm wondering in what context you want to know. Sperm, like any living tissue requires some sort of "food or energy" to survive. We also have to remain in some form of solution and not dry out. There are formulas and chemicals that can kill sperm. Here's something you can read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/spermicide. ...Read more
Ovulation Process: Ovulation (release of the egg) is a complex interaction of the brain (hypothalamus), pituitary and ovary. The ovary actually controls the cycle. Fertility drug (hcg ) is similar to lh, others affect above. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Stops Fertilization: Both the Mirena (levonorgestrel) and paragard iuds keep sperm from fertilizing an egg. Paragard--a copper iud releases copper into the uterus; copper works as a spermicide. Mirena (levonorgestrel) thickens cervical mucous so sperm cannot enter; Mirena (levonorgestrel) may also block ovulation. Both iuds may create uterine inflammation which makes it harder for the egg to implant even if it did get fertilized. ...Read more
Here are...: It takes 64 days for sperm to be formed inside testes and 12 days to mature within epididymal tubules so be ready for insemination. After ejaculating into the vagina, semen will liquefy within 15-30 minutes and motile sperms swim "upstream" to cervix, uterine cavity, to Fallopian tubes to meet, penetrate, and fertilize the waiting egg if there. ...Read more
Antiseptic: Listerine works based on the 'essential oils' it contains. These essential oils act as an antiseptic to kill off the bacteria in the mouth that cause tooth decay and gum disease. Listening is a good product, but it should be used in addition to brushing, not instead of brushing. Also, smokers should use an alcohol-free listerine if that is the brand of mouthwash they choose. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
LAB FERTILIZATION: Ivf means the egg and sperm are fertillized in the lab, in a petri dish rather than in a womans tubes. Traditionally the female is given fertility medications to help the ovary to make more than one egg and then the eggs are removed from the ovary. The eggs and sperm are put together in the lab in a petri dish to fertilize. Several days later, the embryo is transferred into the uterus. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
