How Does Sle Butterfly Rash Form
Malar Rash: The malar rash of lupus is red or purplish and mildly scaly. Characteristically, it has the shape of a butterfly and involves the bridge of the nose. Notably, the rash spares the nasolabial folds of the face, which contributes to its characteristic appearance. It is usually macular with sharp edges and not itchy. Sun exposure can worsen the rash.See 1 more doctor answer

I have butterfly rash, cough, very painful joint pain, slight pain in back near ribs, have SLE should I be worried, cannot contact rheumatologist?
SLE: Dear Gabrielle, a cough and painful chest (you mention ribs), makes me concerned. Pleurisy (inflammation of the lining of the lung) can be a feature of active SLE. It also appears you have active skin manifestation, and arthritis. My suggestion is to get a chest xray and blood work through the nearest ER. They can then advise you further based on results. Best wishes, Nisha

What happens if I have a the butterfly rash on face, is there is possibility that it is not lupus?
What is the percentage of developing the malar "butterfly rash" for Lupus patients? I was informed that only 30% will suffer from it.
It depends: Avoid sunlight and you'll probably avoid the butterfly rash. And sun exposure may not even trigger it. Lupus is diagnosed by checklist -- a certain number of checks, with some groups weighted, gives the diagnosis -- and the diagnosis itself is only a guide to "what should we do" for this still-elusive illness. Best of luck. It's an especially challenging disease.See 1 more doctor answer
