Shingles (Herpes Zoster) (Definition)

No: One cannot spread shingles to different parts of his or her own body.
Hi I have shingles on my left side of the neck. Was wondering if I can cover them with a white non sticky bandage so I don't spread it?
No: Chickenpox is the one spread by exhaling the virus. The virus of shingles is confined to the skin lesion. You can spread it to others by having the skin lesion, discharge and crusting open to air as it is full of the virus. If it is inhaled by someone who has not had chickenpox previously, they can come down with full body chickenpox.
No: You could transmit chicken pox to someone who has never had it, but you cannot transmit shingles to anyone else or spread it in your body.
No: Shingles is confined to the nerve distribution of whatever nerve is infected (we call these 'dermatomes'). So the rash will spread out as a band only on one side (L or R) of the body. It may take a couple days to fully spread out and become red, blistery & painful. Hopefully seeing a doc before that happens could limit or prevent that. I've shut down 2 cases where the pt came in just before rash.
I have been diagnosed with shingles on my left side but now it has spread to my chest and neck. Is it suppose to do this? How do I keep it from spre
Shingles: What you describe is unusual behaviour for shingles, which typically only affects a limited area of the body at one time. You may have something else going on, so it would be best for you to follow up with your doctor. If it really is shingles your doctor may advise further investigations.
No: Do not worry, it will have no bearing on the ultimate course.
Diagnosed w/ shingles. Used vibrator on back before I knew. Is it unsafe to use now on private regions? Want to be 110% sure it won't spread
I had shingles two months ago and now it's back again and this time it's spread onto my legs, what should I do?
Shingles: You should go to a dermatologist to be evaluated. Unless you are immunosupressed it would be extremely rare for a 20 yr old to get shingles once, and almost never twice you must have something else. Perhaps herpes simplex or impetigo or contact dermatitis it may need to be evaluated with bacterial and viral cultures and a skin biopsy. Once diagnosed there medicine to help your condition.

Not shingles: What you described is not consistent with shingles. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.

If I am taking treatment for shingles, am I still contagious? What can I do to not spread the chickenpox virus with people around me?
About shingles: Shingles cannot be passed from one person to another. However, the virus that causes shingles, the varicella zoster virus, can be spread from a person with active shingles to another person who has never had chickenpox. In such cases, the person exposed to the virus might develop chickenpox, but they would not develop shingles. Once the rash has developed crusts, the person is no longer contagiousSee 2 more doctor answers
Will Keflex500mg stop shingles? Traveling over weekend so am I contagious? I'm not scratching so will it spread. On back under bra& left breast?
If someone has shingles how can they spread chicken pox do you need to touch the blisters or by airborne or be in the same room for more then 10 mins?
Contact: Each one of the blisters contain the chickenpox virus. Keeping it covered and careful hand washing should prevent passing on the virus. Avoid contact with high risk groups, the young unimmunized, the elderly and anyone else with difficulty fighting infection. It is not airborne. All the best.
